Anyone working for the Census?

I just signed up to take the test to be a census worker for the 2010 census. I''m wondering if there are any other PSers who are helping with the census?

I went to www.census.gov, then called the toll-free number listed under Jobs @ Census, 2010 Census Taker Employment Opportunities. You give your zip code and it connects you to your local office. I got a fellow named Bill, who was more than happy to schedule me for a test next week.

It is my understanding that they do. I''m not sure yet how they handle the issue of scary people.

You are welcome, katamari. I was speaking with DH about whether I should apply, and he said to think of it less as a job, and more as a community service.

I did this in 1999-2000. It was a bit of a challenge at times, but also a fun way to pick up some extra cash that worked around my schedule. Hummm, I might want to do it again, just for a change of pace..

This is horrible but when I was about 16 or so, a census woman kept coming to the door and I had NO idea what the census was or why she kept showing up and asking for my mom. I kept telling her to go away. lol Finally my mom was home when the person showed up. I'm not even sure if my mom filled out the paperwork.

That aside, still if it's easy money, might as well do it! Hope you get the job.

I worked for the Canadian Census but I didn''t enumerate (aka door to door). I worked an office job...the enumerators had a really tough job but the Census is really important and people don''t realize that the data that is collected helps to staff communities with people like firefighters etc!

Office work would be fine with me! The census is such an important project. It would be interesting to be a part of it.
