I am a avid savy internet shopper, but I am completely lost here.

I have been searching Craigslist everyday for the last 2 weeks. Not only is there very limited nice furniture being sold right now, I don''t like anything that is offered. Also, I can''t seem to find a *bargain* price for these things. They are all expensive.

Is $1799 a good price for a nice day bed, trundle frame included, and both mattresses?

The new popular thing is to have the pull out trundle drawer, but I am looking for an actual pop-up trundle, and there are limited options. Also, this is the only one that will ship everything included. To get a real "good deal", I see myself only saving about $300 or $400 by buying everything separate and having to buy the mattresses locally and having to pay delivery charges...

Can you tell I''m trying to talk myself into this?

Any advice? This is a pic of the bed I am looking at buying:

The price sounds a little high to me so I would continue looking for a furniture store locally.

We used to have a day bed/trundle pop up combination. Are you aware that when you pop up the trundle bed, it may be significantly higher than the day bed? Or that you need to have the space to accommodate a slightly larger than king size bed when the trundle is put up, unless you are planning to separate the two?

The price doesn't sound to bad to me if it includes shipping and really nice quality mattresses. The bed in the pic looks quite nice too.

Thanks ladies.

Heranderson- I will continue to look a bit. There are definitely other rooms in the house that I would prefer to put almost $2000 towards, however, with the baby coming and lots of visitors over Monther''s Day Weekend, I am on a bit of a time crunch.

Lyra- Thank you for the input! I had a trundle in my room growing up, so I am aware of the size allowance needed, but thanks for the reminder. The reason we like the daybed/trundle option, is becuase the room is a 10x12, and this allows us to have a smaller bed during the day that doesn''t take up space, and then the ability to sleep 2 people at night. We would put it down every morning after being used.

If I purchase before the end of April there is no shipping charge for the entire set. I feel like whatever I would save by purchasing furniture local, would just be made up for in local delivery charges.

I don''t know where you live, or whether this place (American Furniture Warehouse, which I think has a website of afwonline.com) has the pop up trundle, but we bought my daughter a daybed from them. We didn''t purchase the trundle part, but the bed and a good mattress was around $450.00. So I think you''d come in well under $1700 with the trundle.

Thanks Demon! I will check it out now.

I had a trundle/day bed for several years when I was a kid as well. This was back in the mid to late 1980''s and I think my mom said it was $800? So 20 years later they''re twice that, makes sense. Mine was metal as well and I remember it got REALLY squeaky after a year or two. The trundle was awesome, though. Then again I had space for it, my room was 18x26.

Thanks Monnie! There is plenty of room for the twin size bed, and the trundle will fit as well... just no room for cartwheels in the middle of the night

Mere, I don't know if you're set on the one you posted earlier, but PB has some really pretty daybeds with trundles and the price is comparable. I can't tell if this one comes with mattresses or not:

I just remember that metal daybed of mine being so squeaky. The wood seems like it would be sturdier and I love that it looks less like a bed when it's made up and the trundle is stored.

I looked at these and completely agree with you that this look is much more attractive, but the problem is, they have the drawer and not the pop-up.

I really want the pop-up option for when couples stay at our place. You have the option to turn and lay vertical or just lay side by side. The drawer would be perfectly fine if we were using this for a toddler room, but we are using this for a guest bedroom. I just don''t think adults would feel comfortable sleeping in a drawer.

Opinion?

Ahhhh...I see what you mean now. I didn''t read the thread closely enough!

It depends pn what look you are going for, but I think it would be less costly to get a futon. It takes up less space and will make a queen size bed. There are some college looking ones out there and there are some better ones, but I know that you can get one brand new from the store with free delivery and setup for less than $1799.

Gecko- Thanks for the idea. I will look into all the separate pieces, and what shipping costs and taxes might be involved.

Radiant- A futon would definitely be cheaper, however, it doesn''t really give the *look* I''m going for. If we were talking about my DH''s guy room (where we already have a fold out couch), then I would be all for it... but I want this room to have the appearance of a nice guest room when not in use, and a futon will just look like another couch. A good idea though. If I see one that doesn''t look so much like a couch, then I will be sure to give it a second thougt! Thanks!

Mere, the only other option I can think of that is somewhat conceivable (although you may laugh your A off) is a built-in Murphy bed. Check this out:

Monnie! DH actually said we should look into this... MIL put these in his room and his brother''s room when they went off to college. They are great for creating space. I totally forgot about them!

Certainly makes for a more versatile "extra" room! Plus I think the concept is just really cool and I would think someone was a total genius if I stayed at their house and got to sleep on a bed that came out of the wall. It''s like finding a secret passage or something. LOL

Have you checked overstock.com Mere? I wish I remembered how much I got mine for in 2003, but I have no idea!
