This is the best finale I''ve ever seen.

It is seriously incredible - I feel like such a goof because I''m getting teary because this must be the most incredible experience for these two guys.

Best finale evah! West Coasters ... we're waiting for you! GAH! I can't stand it.

ETA: I'm so surprised that there was no discussion of the vote split ... how close was it? Record breaking 100 million vote ... what was the split people? They announced it for Clay/Ruben ... like only a 1,100 difference or something. Maybe it wasn't as close as folks assume?

hum.. deco, very true. i wonder why!

Anyone else find the final result moment anti-climactic? Like everyone kind of just stood there with some cheesy electronic signs flashing the winners name?

Once he started singing the last song, it got better but for a second I was like "that''s it?!"

totally agree that it was an awesome finale!!

and I noticed the lack of discussion on the vote split as well. my guess is it just wasn''t close enough to mention

Go ahead and talk - I'm watching Nancy Grace and just saw a commercial for Larry King Live - tomorrow they will have the AI winner ****, and runner up ****. So the cat is out of the bag. For me anyway. Any other West Coasters???

I can''t believe he won!!!

I'm not surprised he won, and not really even that disappointed because I think the runner up might be better off this way (he probably has more doors open to him now than he knows what to do with).

I bet the runner up in the long run will have more staying power as a singer though, hands down. I feel like the winner will be mostly forgotten in a few years, whereas the runner up will probably just accumulate more fans as the years go by (because lets face it, his target audience isn't really the audience that watched and voted on American Idol, and I think as he gets more exposure to people who don't watch the show, his popularity will grow). I also do think the winner won because people voted for him because that's how much they disliked the other guy, and I don't think that will translate into an actual, loyal fan base in the years to come.

I was a bit disappointed because I don't think the more talented vocalist of them won, kind of like how I felt when Clay Aiken lost, lol. But that's ok, I mean, people vote for who they like, not necessarily who's the more technically talented.

I will note that according to google search results though, the runner up has the winner beat by a lot in terms of number of google searches..so I do think he has more of the broader public interest, if not a wider fanbase.

Anybody else feel a little bad about what the winner is going to have to face in the morning? I bet there will be a lot of backlash in the papers about how he wasn't the more talented but won, and whether he only won because the other guy is so "love him or hate him" and people just didn't want to see him win. I hope it doesn't turn this isn't an empty victory, because he really did work his butt off to get it.

I completely agree with you MakingTheGrade.

I'm on the west coast but looked up the winner online (I'm recording it so I can skip through the slow parts/commercials). I will be much more likely to buy music from the runner up than the winner but it's ok...I definitely think it's for the best in the end.

Did anyone else like the song "Permanent" that David Cook sang tonight? I really liked it and thought it was very touching - even more so because it is dedicated to his brother that recently passed away. I will be buying that song for sure.

I agree on the backlash part for sure. I am predicting that several things will be mentioned like:
1) Adam did not win because of his sexuality and that it kept people from voting for him.
2) Kris won the teen girl vote which is a major portion of the voting idol fan base.
3) Adam has more talent than Kris and Kris simply won based on his looks and popularity. Sounds like highschool right?
3.gif

I also agree that Adam is better off being runner up. He will have more negotiating power and freedom to do what he wants. He is going to have a great career for sure!

I have a friend who has a 17 yr. old daughter who can sing like crazy. They moved to LA for her junior and senior years in high school just to be in LA and audition for stuff. She just graduated from Beverly Hills high. So far, things are going well for her.
Anyway, I asked why she never tried out for AI ? Apparently the contract for the winner ties you down for years. Not exactly what one would want, very binding. So really Adam might come out way ahead in this. Hope so. Doughtery (sp) did well and he didn''t win. Look at Taylor Hicks, or rather, where is he! But I bet he is still under contract.
Adam was so entertaining and that''s why I wanted him to win. I wish Kris the best. I hope we see lots more of Adam.

I DVRd the show. I'm now watching and getting to relive my childhood! KISS, Lionel Ritchie, Cyndi Lauper . . . I love it! Was that really Peter Criss playing the drums? *swoon* He was soooooooo my favorite.

Danny sounded great tonight - and Allison seemed so much more energized.

And I definitely think the right guy won. They are both crazy talented - Adam belongs on the stage! Kris belongs on the radio.

Oh, and Anoop is such a cutie! I want to kiss him.

Exactly, LAJennifer,
Adam should stick to Broadway where he can do his theatrical thing. I don''t think his voice will translate well to the radio. I try to listen to the competitors a lot of the time without looking at them to see if I could picture what they would sound like on the radio. Let''s just say, I would turn the station if Adam was on. I totally would go see him in a Broadway production though. I think Kris will do very well on top 40 type stations. I''m sure it is the best thing for Adam to not have won because I can''t see him being played on top 40 type stations and I think that''s what the producers want out of the Idol winner.
