I am left wondering what "single cut" diamond they are defining in such a way. Very strange!!

Tiny single cuts can look very good while larger ones, such as 2.5mm in diameter but cut the same, nearly always look washed out.
There is a definite yet complex correlation between the number of facets, the diameter of the diamond and its appearance of beauty.

With the proper angles(many are not) pretty much any lighting at the right size.
Candlelight would be pushing it but they would do much better than the same size full cut in the smaller melee sizes.
But they would be at their best in direct lighting.

That is because cut for return they have very little contrast.
In small sizes the setting and space between them provides the contrast.
In larger sizes they wash out.

Wow -- I have to say I''m surprised. The VF diagram looks like the stone would be all table reflection and not much else. But, hey, that''s why I''m a consumer not a cutter

Cut right they look like a very bright dot that sparkles.
Brighter looking than full cut and larger more visible sparkles.
I have a design that I want to put into production someday that is a single cut on steroids.

A badly cut one could be described as table glare and nothing else.
That is why a lot of people don't know just how beautiful they are, they haven't seen good ones.
Walk into a high end watch store and look at the diamonds in the high end Swiss watches.
They are often single cuts and well cut.
