Okay, listening to Bush talk the other night about all the credit crisis crap, and there he was talking about making it easier on us, "American Consumers." Isn't consumerism what started the whole problem to begin with? When will we be citizens again? Individuals again? Are all we seen as toy-junk addicts feeding the economy?

Shopping anyone?

Between that and the Commander in Chief instead of President. Sigh...

I hadn''t really thought about it until you said something, but now that I think about it, yeah that IS really annoying.

Now that you''ve brought that to my attention, I''m going to get a little kick-up in blood pressure whenever I hear that word on TV.

Oh! I didn''t even think of that! It''s genius! ...assuming the debate goes on. I''ve heard that there is some doubt.

yes, it goes to the heart of what i''ve been griping about for some time: we are not viewed as citizens.

we are consumers to which our government [corporate influenced to the point that corporations run it] markets. unless we consume we aren''t doing our duty and failing the system. we are seen merely as a group [taxpayers] who should be relieved of their $ and profited from.

no. maybe because I''m a math/econ major.

Nah it doesn't bother me. If you're talking about the economy, "consumer" would be the correct term. We consume. That's what we do. Yeah we're citizens and humans and blah dee bloo, but that's got naught to do with a capitalist society. We're gonna buy goods and services whether we're pandered to or not.

Also, Commander in Chief is (obviously) the correct term for the president when matters of war or military are discussed. Doesn't matter if we think he deserves the title.

Ah, you gals. Any excuse to shop!!!

Maybe my DH agrees with you because he never says a peep when I started yelling at the TV about that terminology.
