Anyone out there who has never considered an upgrade?

Just wondering if there are any PSers who have not considered an engagement/wedding ring update. I find myself totally in love with my e-ring that I can't imagine ever wanting to change it. Am I in the minority?

My ering was altered slightly in the beginning to lower the stone & make it more secure .... but I have loved it since the beginning and would never trade in the stone or setting for another.

I can't ever think of upgrading because the vendor I bought my center stone from, doesn't have an upgrade policy. I'll never be able to upgrade, but that doesn't mean I won't reset it sometime in the future.

But I would not do it, as I love my stone, and still love my setting as it will stand the test of time. It's nothing fancy, but I find I don't get sick of it. It just lets the stone be the star and is inherently wearable. I feed the PS monster by buying other bits of jewelry here and there. The ering stays!

We're not even married yet and I'm already dreaming/looking . Can't upgrade since the place we bought it from doesn't do upgrades (and it would be difficult/impossible to re-set a larger stone in my setting anyway) so I'm just going to have to get another one. Maybe wear this one as a RHR or re-set the stones into a pendant?


I think you're in the minority (at least on PS anyway!) but I think it is wonderful that you still love your ring so much.

I felt exactly the same way when I first came to PS, and the feeling held for about two years. But ... and I really do blame this on PS ... ( ), recently I've been thinking less idly and more concretely about what I'd get if I got a fancy anniversary ring. You spend enough time on here and the subjective/practical considerations of "this suits my lifestyle" and 'I think this is really beautiful' kind of give way to the abstract/objective observation that, yes, 2-3 carat rings are delicious, and so are M2M settings.

To be fair, I'd always kept the option of another anniversary-type ring open, but whereas before it was sorta-kinda-maybe, and for a vague somewhere-in-the-future type date, now the husband and I have talked and decided that for the 5 year anniversary, there will be a BIG diamond.

The one thing I go back and forth on is whether I would want to alternate it with my engagement ring on the hand, or whether I should just get a honker of a pendant stone. Eh, I have a year and a half to keep dreaming!

Just like MoZo, I am ecstatic with my ering because I got exactly what I wanted in the first place. Upgrades are really unusual here anyway, but I can't see myself changing it. Ask me again in 10 years

I never would have purchased a new ring if my original hadn't been lost/stolen. I loved it and the thought of changing it never would have entered my mind (of course, I didn't know about PS then either! )...I love what I have now and while I see pieces daily that make me drool, I will never upgrade. It's just not in my nature. Now, I do need to photograph my new eternity band for ya'll, but other than that, I'm done with jewelry for a while....are you going to be interested in my new bathroom vanity and comfort height commode???

DF, I've been on PS for about a year and have not been tempted yet. But I guess the main point behind what I said is that I have never considered a change, not that I will never consider a change

I haven't thought of it too much because we're not in the position for an upgrade, and also because my husband's very sentimental about my ring. I love my ring, I really do, but I wouldn't mind upgrading the diamonds. Maybe someday but not anytime soon...

I haven't and wouldn't. However, I am not opposed to new, bigger rings.

I really love my e-ring and I cherish it. It was what my husband saved for and presented to me when he asked me to marry him, and I wouldn't want to lose that.

well yes and no. I love my ring, spent time daydreaming and designing it, and it is a part of me. But, in a sense it IS an upgrade. My original engagement ring was an emerald ring and my current diamond ring was made as an early 10th anniversary gift.

its held up very well. its a very wide band and hammered so it doesn't show dings or scratches. it has a euroshank: gave it the shape it would have eventually gone to anyway. also, i don't wear it 24/7.

think of it this way: 22k is soft and dents but for the most part you don't lose gold....... certainly not suitable for prongs.

I'll raise my hand - I've never hankered for an upgrade. That's not to say I couldn't at some point, but I've been really happy with my wedding set to date.

I think I'd rather get other pieces to scratch the variety itch than replace my set.

I've never considered an upgrade and wouldn't in the future. I absolutely adore my e-ring and it was exactly what I wanted. What I'd love to get to go with it is the eternity band and then my set would be complete.

Wellllll, yes and no... when DH bought my engagement ring it sported the biggest diamonds he could afford. They were alot bigger than I had even dreamed of getting (I have a three stone RB, and was hoping for something like .30 .40 .30, he bought me a ring with .39 .77 .39 stones). While they are really pretty stones, white and glittery, they are cut very deep and the centre diamond is quite included, although we're the only ones who know about the inclusions, as they're white. The inclusions really miffed DH when we were first engaged, he wanted to replace the diamonds then and there... but I refused, you couldn't have pried that baby off my finger with a crowbar! Plus we absolutely couldn't afford it then... nor did I know about Pricescope

I'm in the process of 'upgrading' each diamond to BGD Signatures, but am keeping each stone exactly the same mm diameter as the current ones. I LOVE the size and proportions of the ring as is, it's perfect for me... I think it's more of a 'mind clean' thing! I couldn't ever trade it for a completely different style, it's on my left hand to stay!

Upgrades are pretty uncommon here in Australia. When my boss and her hubby got engaged they 'settled' on a ring that she liked and was within budget, but was never the ring she had dreamed of, they always planned to get 'that ring' when they were financially able to. A couple of years ago they purchased her dream ring, and she proudly wears her original engagement ring on her right hand. The whole process was met with many a raised eyebrow, some even had the gall to say to her 'how could you do that to your husband and the ring he proposed with'? Umm, settle down children, they bought it together!

Soooooo long story short, upgrade the diamonds, yes, but definitely keep the setting. Entirely different ring, nope, no way. I'm wide open to plenty of RHRs though

I *love* my e-ring; my fiance chose all elements of it & designed it himself, so it has hugely sentimental value to me. I will never upgrade it. I would rather work on some coloured stone projects I have in mind for the long term!

As an aside, I agree with what DandiAndi said above, that upgrading one's ering isn't common all that here in Australia and doing so is most definitely likely to raise eyebrows.

But I couldn't imagine doing that! He kept asking if I was sure and he said he wouldn't be offended at all if I did! At first I figured it wouldn't hurt to go look even though I loved what I had, but as the days went by I grew more and more attached to it and I didn't even want to look anymore.

I *love* it for what it is. He did a great job with absolutely zero input from me. Is it what I would have picked if I had the choice? Maybe... maybe not. I'm thinking that if I had gone in by myself I would have either ended up with a plain setting or a channel set like this one. I like pave, but I didn't like it when I saw it on my hand when we were trying on wedding bands.

I also love my center stone-it's a unique cut, and I couldn't go much larger without feeling like it was way too much. My center diamond is a .76-.78 (he doesn't remember which) carat classica cut square diamond and I don't think I could do anything bigger than 1c anyway, and to me, I'm glad he saved the money by not going bigger, since I definitely spent it by getting a channel set eternity wedding band

Not me-I was considering upgrades when I bought it! I do love my ring though, and I'm not sure I could actually upgrade it. I thought about it seriously last year but couldn't get to the point of actually contacting WF about it. So most likely I'll keep it...at least for now!

That said, my 10 year anniversary of being with my husband is coming up in 2 years...maybe then I'll feel differently!

I actually had a similar experience. When we first got my ring, I wasn't certain I wanted a princess and was afraid I'd end up wanting a round after buying. So the jeweler said I had one week to exchange the princess if I decided I wanted to go with the round in the end. Needless to say, it took about 30 minutes after leaving the store for me to fall completely in love with my princess and not even care about the round.
