Not obnoxious. Others have fun watching y'all upgrade. We on this site are all obsessed with diamonds and enjoy seeing them. But I believe that a lot of women are sentimental about their e-rings even on this site and wouldn't change THEIRS, even though they might like to watch you do it (and are probably game for upgrading earrings, pendants and other things, as well as ADDING rings, like RHR and anniversary). But to a lot of us, a different e-ring, though maybe technically nicer, wouldn't be the same as the one we got when he proposed.
IRL I am sure that the concept of upgrading has not caught on--many haven't even heard the word and when it's explained, they don't understand the point. Non-diamond obsessed people upgrade their cars and they buy new furniture and redecorate, but their e-rings and wedding rings stay with them for life (though they might add an 'enhancer' or get a band on a special anniversary, of course).
