The Meet the Cutter (infinity diamonds) is at Summa Jewelers in Kirkwood on Thursday the 26th in the evening. I plan to attend. Anyone else in town plan to go? Want to go?

Sounds like fun. Too bad I'm not in the area.

Too bad it's not in my area. I would really like to attend one of those events! I own an Infinity  :lickout:

I wish I could go! Too bad i'm thousands of miles away!

Bump!

Anyone in STL planning on attending? It's tomorrow night!!!

Dang! I'm in STL but I have to work tomorrow night and there's no way to get out of it. What time does it start? I work in Frontenac so I could be in Kirkwood in an instant if it starts late enough.

The event itself usually starts around 7. Cocktails and hoors de'oovers are at 530 I think. I hope you can skip out of work. Who needs worrrrk?!!! haha

Jim Summa is starting the cocktails at 5:30...casual meet/greet begins then. But I don't think our song & dance starts until about 7:00. If it goes as the past few have gone it'll be very interactive and roundtable-like. We've been fortunate to have great questions which lead to a lot of education, opinion and fun.

So I suspect we'll finish up around 9ish - but phase two will be at Dewey's (yummm-Dewey's!) which is just around the corner from Summa Jewelers. Come on down if you can join!

I love Frontenac. We usually stay at the Hilton there when in STL but we're lodging in Kirkwood this time around. Fun area. Fun people. Always a lot of smiles when we come here. Tomorrow will be a killer time, no doubt.

No worries Bean, we'll do it there again. We'd love to meet you. Pricescope folks are often some of the best contributors to our get-togethers...shy or not ;) There were over two dozen attendees in Minneapolis but nobody from PS this time (FlyGirl has come to past events).

Look for another Meet The Cutter event up there later this year or start of 2013. Or if you happen to find yourself near Amarillo or San Francisco Friday or Sunday please join us there.

It sounds how I spelled it! whores dee oooovers. lol

Will you be around for any Deweys beyond today?!!!

If anyone is on the fence about it, please come, seriously. I've been to at least 2 and they're awesome!!! People can ask questions as he goes, and Paul answers technical ones also. It's super awesome every time! And DIAMONDS. LOTS. OF. DIAMONDS. :)

Bummer. I have a client at 6:00 so I definitely wouldn't be there by 7:00. Hope you all have a great time. I would love to make it to the next one, so come back to STL soon! :-)

Dang it! Come after!!! How long will you be with the client! See I am trying to enable you. ENABLE!

Assuming my husband isn't in a bad spot, Im coming tonight despite him literally just having emergency oral surgery! He's sitting upright playing Xbox right now. When I give him the Codiene later he said to go while he sleeps. I might be a horrible wife for actually going.

Just saw the setup at Summa. Nice refreshments (Belgian Beer), chocolates, etc... We also have a few giveaways we'll be distributing through the evening. Excited about a completely new presentation from past events.

Make it out if you can (to Ame, make sure your hubby is well taken care-of though!)

Well he's so into that game he's playing he didn't even notice his chocolate milkshake from Steak n Shake was RIGHT NEXT TO HIM for 20 minutes!

I told Patty I'd let her know at 530 if anything was off. Right now it seems Ill be attending.

And Im psyched for a new presentation!

HAHHA I just went in there to check on him. He was like "what? you're makin me nervous! you're leaving soon right? Can I have a hamburger?"

LOL, he must be on some GREAT drugs!

I have hosted a Meet the Cutter event in Boise, we had a small enough crowd that we made it a sit down dinner (about twelve or fourteen if memory serves.) Poor Paul was so busy talking that I do not think he got to eat much.

As wonderful a cook as my wife is, all the thank you letters were about how wonderful Paul was. I think we might have to cater the next meal. Poor woman cooked her heart out and no one commented on the food, except Paul, who barely got to taste it...

I wish I was there to join you all, I know that Jim does a FANTASTIC job of setting things up for Paul!

Sure does!!! I kind of wish I could travel around to all of the various locations and see how the interactoins are.

I can say, honestly, that the interactions are always great, because that is who Paul is.

I can also say, honestly, that each set up is different. I have seen photos of Jim Summa's and Jimmy Pesis' Meet the cutter events as well as Issac Gottesmans' and all three were similar but way different. The flavor of each store is unique to the owner and they all have different ideas on how to throw a party.

I agree with you that it would be a blast to travel to all the various locations and enjoy the changing flavors of the events.

Do these events ever happen in Canada? Specifically Ontario? They sound very interesting to attend!

Can I ask a stupid question? What happens at a meet the cutter event?

I really think Paul is just awesome to sit and talk to. It's SO interesting to hear his perspective as a cutter. The way he sees things versus John's side...very interesting. If only I had the time off work and the cash to go from shop to shop.

One thing I generally like about the ones here at Summa are that a lot of people give guesses, even if they're way off.

I love both presentations, while it would be at least 4 hours long, Id love to see a merge of both presentations because in the other presentation I LOVE the parcel selection process, how they pick shapes, how Lieve can identify color and clarity in like 2 seconds from rough and how they cut the stones.

Well, you have drinks and whores-dee-oovers and chocolates illegally smuggled into the states, and you mingle with Paul and John, and look at diamonds from Infinity, especially when you get there, you hug people hello and Jim says here hold this. lol Then John and Paul do a presentation about cutting, diamonds, the market, etc., which is amazingly interesting and educational. Then you ask questions and they answer them and can see more diamonds under an ASET, etc. This particular presentation was different than the others I've been to, and it was extremely interesting because it was VERY relevant to right now with the market being how it is for diamonds. We discussed ROI of diamonds and how if you buy a lesser cut quality stone, it won't get as much return and will take longer to get a return. We also discussed supply chains, demand around the world, mines, online selling, and, the best part: FANCIES. And why they cut them the shapes they do, besides the rough kind of dictating that. OMG. So I now want a pear-shaped Orange Diamond. lol One thing that Jim does that I don't know if the other jewelers do is show you his workshop. Which is super cool. We got a demo on laser welding, how he works with metal wire.

And I now want to sell my car to buy one of those. I have no idea what Ill weld. But you'd come to my house and see tons of stuff welded together. Random stuff. Just to see if it will stick.

 Ame, they must love it when you come to these events! It sounds like great fun!

I dunno about "love" when I come, but obviously I like to yell out totally uneducated guesses on values of really big awesome diamonds.

I missed it by one day?!?! Ugh, I live in south city. :blackeye:

How was it?

I'm sad I couldn't go. Not only did I end up having a client at 6:00, but I had another client at 7:00 so there really was no way for me to make it. Normally the spa hasn't been busy on Thursday nights so I thought maybe I could rush and get there at 7:00. I met my husband and a friend for drinks at a pub right across the street from Dewey's after work and thought about going in to see if anyone was there but I was too nervous! Plus, I don't know what anyone looks like except for John via his avatar.

Snickle! I live pretty close to Lafayette Square! We should have an STL GTG! IIRC, Ame lives in the city, too. There have to be more of us on PS, too, right?

Ame, how was it last night?

Ame I loved your description of what happens at one of these events
But THIS was priceless  :D

Sorry to miss seeing you and Paul, John. For some reason I ended up triple booked that evening. It was a hard decision, but the lousy weather that day was the final straw. Glad you were able to make it. How about coming in the summer next time? :naughty:
