Anyone here spot those mysterious drones?

I'm not in NJ or NY, but it sure is an interesting mystery. I have my own theories though, and it's not that they are from Mars. But who knows.

I am in NJ and have not seen any but supposedly they are right near us. I don't know what the government is doing but doing nothing is, IMO, a bad option. There could be so many nefarious reasons for this...one concern I have is that our whole network (internet etc) could be disabled. It would cripple the country. No clue what is going on but I sure hope there are smart people evaluating this situation

They haven't made it down to Texas, at least not yet! I hope our leaders (?) are investigating, even if they aren’t saying anything about it. Can’t believe tht someone isn't checking into these drones and why they have suddenly been popping up out of nowhere. Those Chinese weather balloons that turned out to be spy balloons started out just like this.

There are some out here in CA, too. Some are agencies, and some are unknown since no license is required. I think they're great out here for fire departments, but otherwise I don't like them, especially when I'm trying to enjoy a sunset at the beach, or just trying to relax wherever. There was someone recently who flew one over an Air Force base, which didn't go over too well with our military. :roll2:

Well, now they have made it to New England. And not too far from me. They have been seen on Cape Cod. And I believe also in CT.

Very concerning, if not alarming!

IMO, government/military/police should either, preferably, capture and analyze, or just shoot them down ... NOW!
In this day and age, the potential risks are too dire.

Shoot now, investigate later.
You're not killing humans, just a technology gizmo.

WTF is happening to my beloved country?:doh::doh:

Has anyone considered that they could actually be owned by the US government/military? And that’s why they are not broadcasting the intension behind them?

Yes @RMOO . However, that raises the possibility that they’d rather people fear the unknown because perhaps the real reason is much more nefarious? Why not just disclose? :wall:

Because maybe disclosing the intension also alerts foreign entities? There are top secret operations happening all the time that we don't know about, and they're secret for a reason.

@RMOO So why not just say, “Yes, this is us. We are running trials/testing new tech.” Something, because the scary theories floating on Twitter on large accounts should be quelled with some statement. If it is us. But I guess after the Chinese spy balloon traversed the US with nary a word, I am not surprised at all.
Sorry if I’m sensitive to this issue, I live very near New York City and my children live in it, so this affects us considerably more than those in flyover states. Scary times indeed.

An article just came out a few hours ago that the Boston PD caught a couple of asshats flying illegal drones over the air space at Logan. I would bet money that all of these drone sightings are being done by copy-cat drone enthusiasts or your local weirdos, like this pair that was caught with one running off. I am reassured that the Boston Police responded and checked into it. I’m so not worried about it being a scary threat. I think it’s just your local nerds geeking out and enjoying a rise out of scaring people too.

Yes, I've thought of that.

Yes, they arrested two people. I'm guessing these two are copycats. However, accounts that some seem very sophisticated makes me think that at least some are more than some guy playing with a toy and trying to copycat. I'm hearing on the news now that they were on Long Island in the Harbor Islands and tried to flee on foot. And that the Boston PD had some technology that allowed them to track these guys down through the drone flight pattern. So perhaps they can start doing that for some of these drones that seem super sophisticated.

I will qualify the following by saying that I do not, and will not ever, open a Twitter account. However, I don't think it is the governments job to chase after conspiracy theories on Twitter to try to convince people, who are all to anxious to believe them without facts, to believe otherwise.

“Conspiracy theories” from our NY and NJ Senators and the NY governor.

ETA in case you do not approve of the NY Post, these drones could prevent medical helicopters from flying and have closed down a local airport. It’s dangerous and they’re demanding answers.

A quote from the Senators’ appeal to the federal govt.:
We write out of urgent concern regarding the unmanned aerial system activity that has affected communities across New York and New Jersey in recent days,” said four senators from New York and New Jersey in a Wednesday letter to the Department of Homeland security, the Federal Bureau of Investigation Wednesday, and the Federal Aviation Administration.

I live near DC..There have been reports of drones near here too. :oops2:

A friend of mine has had the cops called on him for legally flying his drone at the park and over his house\yard the last few days more than 3+ times.
They said they were not coming back out for drone reports in his area.
He flew pretty much every weekend for the last 3 years and never had the cops called.
5+ drones flying at the park together is not unusual..
So a bunch of the reports are total bs.

not just rescue helicopters at risk
some people today are so selfish and thoughtless

........“We want drone operators to remember this: if you fly, we can’t.”

Bishop reminded drone operators that if helicopters had to be grounded then fires could increase in size and intensity, and may be harder to contain and control.

Unauthorised drones cannot be anywhere near the vicinity of a fire scene, or where helicopters were dipping monsoon buckets, or in the flight path between the water source and drop off zone.

Bishop reminded the public that all drone operators must comply with Civil Aviation Authority rules and breaches of these rules could lead to fines or imprisonment.

Police have prosecuted people who have flown their drones around fire scenes, Bishop said.

A Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand spokesperson said the organisation was in “ongoing discussions with relevant organisations” regarding the drone incident disrupting emergency services.

I hope some company is developing a flying craft that can capture (instead of destroying) flying drones.
When recovered they could be analyzed and perhaps the owner and their intentions identified.

Compared to all the other uber high tech defense technology this sounds pretty simple.
There was never a need before.
Now there is.

It's in the national interest.

Working with the military, I can say that many are just as surprised that we aren't shooting them down already.
