Ok, so I think I have found it - can anyone confirm I'm not getting a bad deal? Attached is a picture of the ring and the GIA cert. I'm on a limited budgeted, (which is a nice way of saying poor :-) and after lots of research decided that if I go "middle of the road" on clarity and color and as high as possible on cut, in addition to a white gold/platinum setting I will get a very sparkly ring for my money. I hope this is true - can anyone confirm?

This is a 14K white gold (is 18K that much better? it's$125 more and I can’t tell the diff.) three stone ring. The GIA cert attached is for the center diamond, which is a .34 ct, H, VS2. The ring has a total carrot weight of .48 ct, H, VS2 diamonds.

Price you ask? Well I’m glad you did - $1,500

Am I getting ripped off?

hey techsales

welcome to ps!
with the limited amount of information available on this stone, i am glad to see that at least the depth and table look good

and i love that the polish and symmetry are both graded excellent.

since you are on a limited budget, i would HIGHLY recommend looking at i/j color stones as well. either will face up as white as higher color stones in most every lighting condition. also, you can drop your clarity to si1/2 and still have an eye-clean diamond. if you are set on h/vs however, i think this stone looks like it could be very nice. the setting is very pretty too!

Yes if you drop the clarity you can still have an eye clean stone. The table and depth are fine and it''s an ex/ ex stone. If you are set on an H and VS, then it''s very nice. I love the setting, very pretty!!!

Oh, very cool - I didn''t realize i could go that low on color and clarity and still have an eye clean diamond - thank you both!

What about the Affinity or hearts and arrow?

Also, what about 14K vs 18K white gold?

I don''t think there''s anything wrong with 14k gold. If you can''t tell the difference and you know she will be happy with 14k then don''t waste the $125!

i was surprised the first time i saw a well cut j

clarity wise, i will always look at si stones first. i see no reason to pay for things i can''t see.

i have never heard of affinity. www.whiteflash.com sells branded hearts and arrows and are very reputable.

I think I will go lower in clarity and color in trade for size - after all, no matter what she say''s, I know size matters!

What do you think of the Harts and Arrows/Affinity? I did some research and through the special scope (sorry i don''t remember the name of it) the affinity makes the same shapes so in essence - it''s the same. With out the brand/name recognition of course, but an appraiser is going to by what they see not that I or a report say''s it''s a "harts and arrow’s" right?
Anyway, the point is will that make it more sparkly? (is that a word?) or should I just stick with Ideal, again in trade for size?

sparkly is a word

it''s my favorite word!

some people like to say ''scintillation'' but i much prefer sparkly.

first of all, it should be noted that not all hearts and arrows are created equally. some may say that their diamonds are hearts and arrows when there is only a minor resemblence of a heart or arrow present. knowing that, you must also realize that hearts and arrows alone doesn''t guarantee a sparkly diamond. h&a is only used as a description for a certain arrangement of facets that resemble hearts (when viewed through the pavillion) and arrows (when viewed through the crown). there are many other factors in a diamond that influence scinitillation. having ''hearts and arrows'' does not guarantee a better diamond. if you want a performance guarantee, you will have to focus on the overall cut.
