Hi,

Has anyone heard of the "Princess Plus" cut? It is supposed to have 101 facets.

I''ve never heard of the Jubilee before either......I just read the tutorial on it....I am looking to get a princess cut in the next few weeks.....I wonder if I should be open minded to the jubilee as well????
any thoughts?
thanks
Tina

Hi Tina,

There are many variations on traditional themes such as PrinPlus. The more facets you put on a diamond the busier/more active it can look. As facets become smaller their individual performance is not as robust, so the general consensus is that these cuts are more appealing in larger sizes, where there is more surface area available to distribute. Here, as with many aspects of diamond beauty, it's good to be open-minded. What's important is what appeals to you, personally.

i remember someone looking at a princess plus awhile back. if i recall, the reflector image wasn''t that great and showed quite a bit of leakage. more facets does not mean a better diamond. i would want to see it in person and compare it to some other well cut princess stones before deciding.
i have seen the jubilee cut and i can tell you that it does not look much like a square. if you like the unique squareness of the princess cut, there is no substitute.

There are well over 100 different "cuts" of diamonds with all kinds of names that have been registered. I doubt that more than a dozen of them are in production and would not be surprised if it is less than 6. I have looked at 3 or 4 of them. While I have never seen it in person (which should end in March) - my understanding is the Eighternity is probably the best ballance of what makes a good diamond - based on my conversation with Johnathan at Good Old Gold, and Todd at NiceIce.

Size does matter - and I do not believe that extra facets adds much of anything below 3/4 carat - but have seen how they can enhance things above 2 carats.

I am eagerly awaiting my inspection and comparison of the Eighternity Diamond to other well cut "regular" diamonds.

Thanks for your responses everyone!

it seems to me that the 101 facets is just another selling attempt to sway people. I wish I could get over 2 carats Perry, to have the extra cuts work to my advantage, that would be wonderful, but cant swing it.

well, back to the drawing board!
thanks

Me too... When I was shopping for the center stone I was focused on 3/4 carat diamonds. Perhaps a bit larger.

It will be interesting to see how well a 3/4 - 1 carat Eighternity looks compared to a 3/4 - 1 carat normal diamond (Eighternity has - I believe - 83 facets: Someone correct me if I am wrong).

If you are more interested - check out the information at GOG on Eighternity. You ca learn a lot about the pro''s and con''s of extra facets.

Hi Jetmal, you can fnd all the info about the PrincessPlus at PrincessPlus.com. It is a Princess cut diamodn with over 100 facets one of the features of te PrincessPlus is that each PrincessPlus diamond comes with a light reflection analisys which shows light leakeage vs. regular Princess cuts. I would advise to try to see one and comprare with a regular Princess in order to be able to make an educated decision.
