I need the .gem file to generate the report from the Gemadviser.

Thanks for the help in Advance!!

Hi to all

I realise even the CEO of octonus software solutions is on this forum.

If anyone has a program that can generate a .gem file please assist me in doing so, i am really interested in just computing the light return % using gem adviser before i purchase this stoen for my fiance.

I thank you in advance!

Hi pianist,

It's impossible to do this accurately without a 3D scan of the diamond. You have only the averaged measurements, and some of those are rounded (presuming this is a GIA report).

Here is what I mean: Your "lower half" number is 75%. To get that number they took 16 separate measurements around the pavilion of the diamond...averaged them to get a single number....and the number they got could actually be 73,74,75,76 or 77...but GIA practice is to round it to the nearest 5%. That's just lower half %. The star, crown angle and pavilion angles are also rounded. Additionally we have no information on cut precision (optical symmetry).

In pianist lingo, it's like asking someone to play a composition with only chords and melody to go by. Without the written harmony, bass and inner voices it would not be a faithful reproduction of the composition.

I suspect any professional would be reluctant to generate a gemadviser file for a specific diamond without a 3D scan. I can tell you that your basic numbers are predicted to earn AGS0 in light performance according to the AGS cutting guidelines - but there again it would be nice to see an actual image (ideal-scope or ASET are best) to see cut consistency, etc. It does sound like a nice stone.

Hi John Thanks for the reply.
So i guess unless i get my hands on the 3D image of the stone, it is not possible for me to calculate the light reflection index then?

Is hollaway a good guage?

You're welcome. A 3D scan would allow ray-tracing values to be calculated. That's an interesting exercise but not necessary to know how this diamond measures up to others in a broad grading sense (you already have that info).

It would be nice to see the diamond's level of cut precision, and an actual ideal-scope or ASET would serve that purpose as well as (sometimes better than) a 3D scan.

John is correct.

And HCA will say it is worth considering, but it is a rejection tool not a selection tool - so now you need to do more with a degree of certainty that it will be OK.

BTW there will be a demo Diamcalc coming soon, but it will not be able to solve your problem :-)
