I posted a few days ago about shipping my stone to Pearlman''s to have them set it in the Ritani Endless Love setting we''ve ordered. However, I realized that there are too many issues/risks with shipping from Canada to the U.S. So, we have found a local jeweler who is willing to do it and seems very reputable. I am just wondering if anyone else here has had a stone set in Ritani Endless Love (no halo) by a local jeweler? If so, what were your experiences? Was it relatively easy? Were you happy with the final product? Thanks in advance.

I personally wouldn''t do it. I would want ritani to do it even if it costed much more with shipping.

there is one gal here who had her local jeweler set the stone and it didn''t go well at all. she also had the endless love setting, no halo. she ended up having to send her ring to Ritani to fix. I know going back and forth to Canada isn''t easy, but I''d just try to make do and let Pearlmans get your stone to Ritani and then back to you.

here''s her thread:

It isn''t the cost of shipping that concerns me. It is the fact that, if the posts in my other thread are correct, no courier here will ship jewelry. So there really is no easy way for me to get my diamond to Pearlman''s. No one has had any luck getting a local jeweler to do it?

Did you ask Pearlman''s how they normally work situations like yours? I read in you other thread that you aren''t too far from the border. Is is possible to just drive the stone over and then ship it in the states? If neither of those options work then I guess you''ll just have to take a chance with your local jeweler. If they really are good then in likelyhood they will be able to set your stone without problems. i would only do it though if there just isn''t any other option.

That is what I did. I went across the border to the Post Office, and sent the stone to NYC for setting. It took about 1 week to get there (which I hear is speedy!) but it was very secure, insured, and cheap. Once it was set, it was fed-ex''d back and I picked it up at a Kinkos. It was very simple to do (okay so it was a bit of a pain) but it was totally worth it for the security.

Plus, as far as I know, there is no easy way for a regular joe like me to ship a loose diamond from Canada to the US.

Thanks to everyone who has responded. Going across the border is really our only option to get the stone there, and we just don''t see that working in terms of our schedules. I read through the link above that describes another poster''s problems. From what I understand, her jeweler made one of the prongs too short, but Ritani also made the setting uneven in terms of melee distribution. So, I guess there is a risk, although it is small, even when Ritani is doing the work. I just hope the jeweler we found does a good job, I''m nervous now!
