Anyone had a bone spur on their hand?

So, I''ve got a pretty awful bone spur on my left hand (unofficially diagnosed by a doc friend of mine who is a rock climbing buddy) and I''m waiting on an appointment with my regular doc/possible referral to a hand surgeon.

Has anyone on PS had one of these before? It''s on my ring finger, pretty much exactly at the spot where the finger meets the palm of my hand (I obviously paid lots of attention in anatomy

no idea what it''s called). I''m not sure what to expect in terms of treatment, but if anyone''s had this before, I''d love to know what I''m in for/what questions I should be asking at my appointment. And how much my ring size is going to change once the spur is removed (kidding!).
