anyone get glasses at costco?

Has anyone gotten glasses at Costco? All my kids and I wear glasses. I just got new glasses a few weeks ago and even with "insurance" discount it was $460. Granted I need high index lenses due to a high prescription and I got anti reflective coating, but still thats a lot!

My kids are going for their annual exam in 2 weeks and their eyes get worse each years since they are growing so fast.

I was thinking of trying Costco to save some money but don''t want to skimp on quality. When I was a kid my parents always took me the cheapest places and I never saw quite right.

Also, I have had awful expeirences with "L" crafters and am learly of chains due to that.

I thought I would try Costco with my oldest son who has the srongest prescription and if that goes well get the other kids glasses there.

Mistake or good idea?

I figure its worth trying.

DH and I both had our eye exams done at Costco and purchased our glasses there. Mine were bifocals and they were really great about re-making them when I decided that I just couldn''t deal with having bifocals. DH took a few days to adjust to his glasses but he thinks its because they were a different type of lens. Overall it was a great experience. They do have some designer frames like Coach but mine are just Bulova and DH''s are "link" or something like that which I guess is their house brand. Even if the glasses don''t work for you, they will re-make them for free so definitely let them know if something doesn''t seem quite right.

my hubby has glasses from costco. I''m planing on getting frames from them in the next few weeks and my oldest is due for an eye exam and I plan on taking her there.

There aren''t that many lens making labs (where the raw lens comes from) in the US. All of them are regulated the way any medical supply would be.

The only "risk" associated with choosing a provider is trusting them to refract you correctly (finding the RX), cutting the lens accurately, fitting you accurately, and knowing what your return options are and what types of repairs or warranties are included. Quality of the lens itself is always going to have a standard that it has to meet. The frames don''t have to meet any high standards.

We have had many pairs made at Costco. I have had a few minor problems with frames but I don''t think it would have been any different if I had paid more or gone somewhere else. Costco always fixes
them. When my son, who is in college broke his, I just went in and ordered another pair. They were just about 100.00. It would have been more than double that at the eye dr. we go too. My contacts
are also half price.

We have our eyes examined at a dr. office because the price is pretty close and it is way less of a waiting, timing hassle. We just take the script and order at Costco.

I get my exam contacts & glasses at Costco, I make an appointment so there is no waiting. Never had any problems.

I am a huge ambassador for Costco optical. I have probably convinced 5-10 of my friends to get memberships simply to buy glasses because they are so much cheaper. I don''t get my exams there because they are not covered in my plan, but my mother does and has no problem.

I am a bit addicted to glasses--I typically buy 3-5 pair a year. Costco always has styles I love (incredibly trendy, overstated, funky, plastic)--the same that are offered by my optical center often for hundreds less. The last pair I got there were at my eye doctor''s for $465 (frames only) and I got them at Costco for $179, frames and lenses.

There are some drawbacks. They don''t sell my favorite eyeglasses designer (lafont). They don''t offer the most fancy glare resistance and they only offer one brand of frames for prescription sunglasses (which are far more functional than fashionable, which is not okay in my book for sunglasses). Those are only minor beefs, though. In all they are fabulous!

Oh, and if you take frames to them, they put lenses in for $89! So, if they don''t have a style you like, you can order them online if you know your measurements and Costco will put the lenses in and provide maintenance.

had a spanish class in mexico a few years back and one of the other attendees was an optometrist turned street pastor. he swore that costco was the best bargain around for buying glasses and wouldn''t buy anywhere else for himself or his daughter. that''s where i''ve been getting mine and i''m more than satisfied with the quality.....and i''m very hard on glasses.

Awesome, thanks for the input! My kids and I go to an opthomologist for our exams so I would be bringing in the prescription and not getting examined by them at Costco, just shopping.

I told me son we are going to try costco for glasses and he has not problem with that.

Great to know on contacts. I wear contacts too and have told me teenage son that when he feels ready I can get him contacts if he wants. but as anyone who is very nearsided and needs contacts, you always need back up glasses too.

If things go well with my son for glasses, I think I am going to get myself a back up pair.

Costco is great for glasses. DH bought his frames there nearly five years ago, sill in perfect condition, and the lenses with the transitions hold up very well. Sometimes I wish those silly things would break so I can put him in a sexier pair of glasses
