Anyone familiar with Adobe Pro?

I had a trial version of Adobe Pro back in October and had no issues converting word docs to pdfs. I finally got work to get me the full version (trial ran out forever ago) and despite changing every setting I (as well as my IT department) can think of, images are coming out horrible! Anyone had this problem and know how to fix it? I googled and found posts on forums describing the same problem, but no one ever responded.
