My search for a cushion for my GF continues! Considering some cushions, and this was a facet arrangement I had never seen before. I like the chunkier look to a cushion, not the bucket of crushed ice look....any ideas how this would appear when viewed from above?

Thanks!

IUt looks a lot like a Cushette cut, a designer pattern of faceting.... They can be very nice, but you need to look at the stone to be certain it appeals to you. There is a lot of variation between stones.

My cushion cut diamond looks the same! It looks slightly oval shaped in my setting when you first galnce at it. Personally, I love it.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the replies...I did a search to see some cushette pictures....not sure if my GF would like that design...so I might just stick with the chunky cushions....

Thanks!

It is my belief that a Cushette is a super substitute for a princess cut. It is made so that no one will break of pointy corners, yet it sort of has a princess cut look. Some are rather oval, but most of these are cushion shaped with pretty much straightish sides and just curved corners. Those who sell Cushettes like them because of a low incidence of damage in setting. I think it is a valid preference.

You can find cushion cuts of every sort, but they are comparatively rare. If you like cushion, consider ovals, too. Some diamonds listed as oval are really cushion shaped. It is a difficult category and there are crossover stones.

The relation between those GIA plots and the real thing are at best lax. That could be a cushion with a princess-style pavilion or just about anything else. The plots are just "maps" - they do not look like the diamond represented more than a subway map fits the actual layout of the network.

Just look at these nicely matches old cuts and their unmatched GIA plots

Can you get a picture of that diamond ?
