Unique and beautiful. I would consider that a "no compromises" setting. But I am not really a fan of 3-sided pave for engagement rings, even though many people have gorgeous ones, I want to wear a wedding band and 3-sided is better for standalone rings or with a plain band.
Delicate and elegant! I think the side profile is beautiful and unique. My concern is the 3 sided pave isn't the most durable setting so it depends on how careful the wearer will be. I have a micropave wedding band and I've had to replace some stones but then again, I am super clumsy and not at all careful.
Add me to the list....pretty design but I would never buy 3 sided pave for an e-ring. This design is similar to one that Jewels By Erica Grace sold, but you could get it with a plain shank. I don't think they do settings anymore, but maybe they could tell you who made them.
I have a three-sided pave e-ring. I've had it for a year and a half with no problems. BUT it is 4mm wide and 3mm tall, so it is significantly sturdier than that ring looks. And it is only half-eternity, so having a plain shank on half of it adds sturdiness as well. I plan on wearing it with a knife-edge band between it and a three-sided pave wedding band, or with a milgrained bezel band. I don't have to be particulately careful with mine, but despite that I baby it. I just wear mine out (when I'm not doing anything that might damage it) and when we have company over. I take it off when I eat anything goopy or greasy with my hands or am wearing sunscreen because despite the azures, it's really hard to get it clean if gunk has gotten into it.
I think if the person wearing the ring is fine with it being an occasional wear ring, and is conscious of what they do with their hands and takes it off for anything that may damage it (including sleeping, carrying shopping bags, etc), it's a fine ring to have. But if they want a ring they can wear a lot and don't have to think about much, it is definitely not the right ring.
It's really pretty but doesn't look for practical, like others have said. My biggest concern is that the diamond doesn't seem to be very protected. Beverley K has some lovely settings that has 3-sided pave, but the diamond is much more secure looking. Check it out: http://www.beverleyk.com/
I saw a replica of this setting today and the design is beautiful. I tried it on and considered it for myself as well ... I will eventually get a ring made like this
I really find that VERY appealing to look at - I love the way there is no metal obstruction at the culet and the basket is pavee. It is a stunning ring, but I'm with everyone else - not sure about the longevity of the 3 sided pave. Could it be modified to only the top of the shank and only 1/2??
Just a random dumb thought--- if Neil Lane is the one who provides the Bachelor/Bachelorette shows with their erings, and we know those engagements RARELY last, maybe these really aren't built for the long run??? ( - oh, that was nasty of me... but I couldn't resist!! tee hee!!)
