Need to pick up a gift card today...any suggestions on which most prefer? The recepient is country western to the hilt-the baby probably has his own spurs already...so shi shi boutique is out. Just the major generic chains.

Any suggestion on your experience would be appreciated. §

Babie''s R US has everything and they are everywhere. For onlines stores I like BabyCenterStore.com

Uncommongoods.com has baby socks that look like cowboy boots (boy and girl version). That would be adorable if you want to get a gift instead of a GC. Someone gave me the mary jane version and I think they are so cute.

Kids always need clothes - what about a gift card from BabyGap?

i actually bought dh''s co-worker''s first grandchild her "first" cowgirl hat and denim dress from gymboree last year...it was adorable!

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate your input.

Yes Tacori those socks are absolutely precious! I have never been to uncommongoods. It is really rockin!

If you''re thinking of a clothing store gift card, Gymboree is by far the best for basic clothes. Most of my boys'' clothes come from there and they hold up VERY well.

Well, I''m pretty "country western" too. And I would suggest either Baby Depot (which are inside Burlington Coat Factory- if you have them) or Target. At least if the recipient can''t find boots in the right color or a small enough belt buckle, they can still buy diapers.

BabyGap, Gymboree, Babies R Us, or Target

Old Navy has the cutest baby clothes too if you wanted to buy an outfit. I just love them. Just PLEASE don''t buy anything 3-6 months. EVERYONE buys 3-6. Tessa has got probably 40 3-6 month outfits

Uncommon goods does have cool stuff. I think some children''s books are always a nice gift too.

Yep, 6-9 months and 12-18 are to great sizes. Most of the stuff I got at my shower were those sizes and they got lots of wear. Old Navy is ideal for jeans. My younger son still wears that brand at age 5 and I get most of the jeans on sale for $10!

I agree: 12-18 months is great. It is a little surprise in the closet down the road, and by that age, they actually stay in clothes longer than a week!!

Also, shoes are great. I love baby pumas (my little man is on his third pair).

Target for sure on all the basics! i am not a fan of babies r'us as the ones i tend to go into seem so ratty and played out. at least Targets are typically clean and organized pretty well. whenever i am getting 'basic' baby stuff i head to Target (and typically spend way too much). they even have a great selection of clothes for the kiddies and toys. if i have to shop babies r'us i just do it online through amazon so i never have to go into the stores!

other than that i love going into boutiques but that's not quite 'basic'. babystyle.com has some cute stuff too...but again not super basic.

Saw the thread title and thought "You mean, you can just buy them? What a relief!"

I love Target for kids clothing, toys and accessories. They have some of the cutest baby girl things, and there''s always a big selection. Gymboree is great for clothes. They wear better than anything and will last through several children, so they can be worth a little extra money even though the kids outgrow them so fast. I actually got some gently used Gymboree clothing from a friend and both the boys wore them, then I resold them to a kids resale store. They were still in great shape -- they are just really well made with good, sturdy fabric. (Of course, that was about 8 years ago -- I''m ASSUMING they are still well made....

Baby''s r us and buybuy baby.

I find that baby''s r us carries everthing you need and things you didn''t think you needed or didn''t even know existed. They also have a good return/exchange policy with or without a receipt.

I got two different nursery lamps at my shower and 4 diaper genies and didn''t need them and wasn''t sure where they were bought. I brought it to babies r us and told them I thought they may have been purchased there, but did not have a receipt. They scanned everything, accepted everything and then gave me a gift card for the full amount, which I used to buy diapers

Yep, Gymboree clothes are very well made and the fabric is thick. The worst I''ve found (personally) is Target clothing. I purchased a few summer shirts for both boys and they got holes in them after only a few wears! I''m willing to pay double for kids'' clothes that hold up. Old Navy shirts are suprising well made too for the money.

stores. We don''t have one yet, and frankly it would be a lot easier if I could go in a store say on isle 12 and pick out a good sturdy one. So do you know about any of those stores? Just kidding. There are so many in need of good homes, I am sure when the time is right...we can go anywhere to get us one! As long as AJoPitt doesn''t snatch them all up...I am sure I can find one somewhere!! But isle 12 would sure be convenient.
