Hi,

I''d really appreciate a quick sanity check -- we''re going to check out this stone in person later today and I wanted to make sure everything was okay in terms of numbers, etc...

(I haven''t see the reports yet, these numbers came from the sales lady over the phone)

GIA cert (dated from 2004 -- is that a bad thing?)
Round, 2.35, J, VS2, ex sym, ex polish, No Flour
crown 34.8
crown height 15.1%
crown angle 34.8
pavilion angle 40.7
depth 61.2%
table 57%
thin - medium 0.9% - 1.4%

ISee2 score-9.3
ISee2 is broken out into brilliance, scintillation and symmetry. I only remeber symmetry as being 9.7... I believe the others are lower.. in the low 9s.

Measurements: 8.57-8.60X5.25

Is there anything I should watch out for? Again, I really appreciate the advice/assistance...

Thanks!
Jade

Hi Jade,

I ain''t no expert, but those numbers look good to me.

The next step is the all important one......the eye test !

Let your eyes be the judge.

P.S. I always take a loop with me to examine the stone closely. If you haven''t got one, I am sure the jeweller will lend you his. Don''t be afraid to ask. And don''t be afraid to walk away, if it doesn''t live up to your expectations.

Take you time!

good luck dyanne

GoodOldGold used to (or maybe still does?) practice ISEE2 - their benchmark for accepting stones is score 9 or above and they are very strict.

The shop is very often mentioned here... have you seen them online? There used to be a page about ISEE2 on the site too.

If the price is ok, the stone sounds great. IMO, ISEE2 covers quite a bit of ground with their symmetry score etc. I don''t know all that much about it and the workings of the system are proprietary - so there isn''t much left in the open to talk about anyway

Their internet pricing is 16072, which I''m assuming(hoping) they''ll honor even in the store. IMO, they should since I found the stone online first. Here''s to hoping

Compared to pricescope and the inventory I''ve seen lately for larger well cut stones.. this price seems really reasonable to me.

It''s been so hard to find a great cut stone in the 2.2+ area lately! sigh...

isee2 measures using indirect lighting.
It is only 1/2 the picture the ther being direct light performance.
There isnt always a direct relationship between goof indirect and direct light performance.
But a diamond that scores in the high 9s has a good chance of being a good all around performer and its a good starting point.
Check it in multiple lighting envirements and if it passes it should be good to go.

Lighting environments always confused me. So, if the stones sparkles like mad under their crazy jewelry store lighting -- would that be a good "test" for direct light performance? What are other types of directly lighting?

Thanks!
Jade

woo excuse the sloppy typing earlier ,,, not enough pepsi yet.

Direct lighting is sunlight and regular light bulbs.
indirect is reflected light and florescent office lighting.
Jewelery store lighting is usually has very strong direct light mixed in with some indirect light.

The jewelery store lights to watch out the most for are the ones that shine over your shoulder from behind you.
If shopping with someone taller than you have them stand slightly behind you to block the lights :}
If your lucky the salesperson will try and get the person to move and you can have a good giggle :}
One local store has set places for the sales person to stand depending on the height of the customer.
The customer will usually move to where the sales person is lining up the light near perfectly.
