I've seen this couple and kitty a bit on u tube
beautiful cat

He doesn't appear to like swimming...

Oh man, I’m so jealous! I’ve always wanted a “big kitty.” But then my little kitty will playfully swat at me with her paw and I think that’s going to be a whole different ball game when those paws are the size of my head.

Yeah, agreed. My (little) kitties scratch the heck out of me and I have the wounds to prove it. Not trying my luck with a "big" cat. But oh they are so beautiful.

Hell's bells, people are stoopid. That cat will eat him!

“Puma is best medicine. No, wait. Vodka is best medicine. But when there is no vodka, use Puma. Puma is good medicine. Relieves headaches, toothaches, and existential crisis. Get yourself Puma. Then get vodka. Also, do not give vodka to Puma.”

I think Messa is just being nice, and biding his time till the baby is born. :Up_to_something::cheeky::eek2:

Such inter-species (or is it intra?) "love" is ... well ... lovely, but it makes me wonder.

A companion parrot, especially one hand-raised and very tame, often bonds with one human in the family.
That sounds nice, but it's a mixed bag.
When the bird thinks of that person as it's 'mate' it changes the dynamic of its relationship to every member of it's human flock ... and some of the behavior is not so good.

Let's say the cat picks the hubby.
Then when he hugs his wife the parrot may bite him, or her - sometimes even drawing blood.

Clearly this puma is tightly bonded to this man.
I worry about those teeth and those claws as the cat matures.

I believe what we see in the video is sibling behavior, not mate affection. Having said that, I have a little bit of experience in owning endangered animals, and my opinion is that it’s a very bad idea.

Humans anthropomorphize animals, especially their pets.
It's easy to when they are so affectionate.
But we can forget that when they display affection that doesn't mean they are, in other ways, how we expect and want them to be.
This can surprise and disappoint us.
But the more we learn about that species the less surprising and disappointing it will be.

Every species has unique instincts, social structures, psychologies, complex behaviors, expectations etc.
The more details I learn about wild parrots in their world, the more I find my parrot fits into our world.
He's happier, we're happier.

These videos sho a very close man/cat relationship.
However even hand raising a wild animal does not convert it into a domesticated animal.
Dogs and cats have been selectively bred by humans for zillions of generations.
We breed in what humans like and breed out what humans don't like.
Not so with pumas. (Same with parrots.)
These creatures may only be one or two generations removed from wild.

After watching several of their videos I have seen no affection between the cat and the woman.
Uh Oh. :eek2: Red flag, I think.

But is sure is heartwarming to watch this man-cat relationship, and they're making $$$$$$ on Youtube.

I agree.
Endangered species belong in the wild or in breeding programs.

I checked first, and my parrot (yellow-sided green cheek conure) is not endangered.
In fact they are very easy to breed.
BTW, the most-spectacularly colored conure, the sun conure, is endangered. :(sad

I just read in the wild they live around 11 years.
But most interesting was the lifespan disparity when they live in a human home.

If they get proper diet, medical care, and the extensive interaction, mental stimulation, and have good relations with humans who are well-informed of their social needs, their lifespan is 35 years.
But if they get the same diet and medical care, but no social interaction, their lifespan drops to 11 years.

One year for Christmas Tinky gave Gary a chetta experience at the zoo
most of the money went to the zoo's fund for wildlife conservation so wild cheaters somewhere benifited
Anyway one on one was pretty cool
when we got home i was giving Tinky a cuddle saying how awsome it would be if he was a big cat and Gary made a scary noise to provoke Tinky to put his claws in and run over my head and down my back only to prove his point this was a very dumb idea

I actually knew someone, he was a neighbor of a family friend, who owned a mountain lion.

He rescued it as a cub from nasty poachers, who had declawed the cub, and planned to raise it in captivity, and shoot it and have it stuffed for a trophy once it was "big"...He could never be returned to the wild...it was really sad.

The man bought it off of them, and built an enclosure outside and tried to keep it in the house on and off, or on a long chain to let it outside.

Spring, he was named, would take naps on their car...and slowly crushed the roof as he grew. He eventually gave chase to them inside their home, or passerbys. He was very bonded to the owner, but this was a wild animal. There was no conditioning that out of him. I don't care what anyone says. Scientific studies have proven this time and time again.

I remember visiting Spring through the fence, and he licked a hole in my jeans.

The owner eventually moved out into the middle of the woods in a trailer, realizing the risk..he gave up everything to care for this mountain lion. It was still less than ideal.

One of the coolest places I have been was the Wild Animal Sanctuary outside of Denver...amazing large carnivore rescue. The number of stories like Spring, and much worse...was really heartbreaking. Wild animals who had suffered enormous abuse who could finally be given respite and rehabilitation...Glad there is such a place to clean up the messes created by human idiocy.
