I literally just discovered that I have to work tomorrow after thinking for weeks that I had tomorrow off... I would have sworn our university was closed tomorrow but I just ran into one of my coworkers at the grocery store who looked at me very strangely when I asked her if she was enjoying her long weekend. Anyone else want to wallow in misery with me that all of our friends and family have the day off and we have to work?

What could you possible do at a university on a holiday. There certainly aren't any classes and none of the offices would be open. I guess they still have security and services for students living on campus. Hope you get a comp day to make up for it. But honestly, there are a lot of businesses open on legal holidays.

My good friend works EVERY day. Literally 7 days a week, and on all holidays except Christmas. He drives a truck for a linen company.

Hospital workers, police officers, firefighters, etc all have to work tomorrow - so you're definitely not alone. :)

I am actually starting a new job on Tuesday, and it's at a hospital. I have no clue whether or not the employees in my department (we don't work directly with patients) work on most holidays, but we'll see. I would tend to think that we don't, since they asked me to start on Tuesday - but it's also possible that they asked me to work on Tuesday because the person who is supposed to train me already asked off for Labor Day, or maybe they just thought that it would be bad to ask me start on a holiday.

Regardless, it's not a huge deal to me. Sure, I would love to have holidays off, but I can get through working them if necessary. :)

Im working tomorrow. I am not pleased about it, but it is what it is and I am better off just going in and making the best of it. The worst part is going to be waking up early and looking back at the bed and seeing DH sleeping there all comfy. I think I might make him get up with me. Ya know, to make sure he stays on his work schedule :saint:

Wake up tomorrow and be thankful you have a job... I get where you are coming from, and getting a break is nice.. But it is what it is, so make the most of it??

BUT I know how you feel, hard to work when everyone has off...

What do you do?? Is it security??

JD was supposed to go in for a couple hours and then get a full day off he could take w/in the next 3 months, which would've been nice, but they changed their minds. He's worked a lot of holidays, and generally if they're busy, they don't get long weekends either.

Run for cover I'ma goin off topic!

SDL, you are beautiful and that is a beautiful picture.

The end.

I have to work tomorrow. I don't really mind, I'm just glad to have a job.

On the down side, we do not get any paid holidays.

My college always started the fall semester on Labor Day; spring semester historically started on MLK Day but students lobbied to have a day of service instead of classes and the administration started doing that during my sophomore year. My first year of law school was the first time the school was ever closed for Labor Day, and all the professors then scheduled "makeup classes" even though they weren't supposed to. I think it's pretty common in higher ed to be open on Labor Day, at least in the area I live in.

Working the long weekend night shift.

My husband is working today, he is a manager in a distribution warehouse for a large retailer. He works every holiday besides Christmas and Thanksgiving. Since he is management, he gets an extra$ 250 and a free day off. This will be his last bonus holiday, he starts a new job next week.

I'm at work right now- oh the beauty of retail management! However I found out this morning my request off for New Year's Eve and Day were approved so I can't be too down!
