I could start charging! I was at a friends Friday night before we were both going away for the holiday weekend. I had her packed in 5 minutes, with accessories. She showed me stuff and I would say, Yes, not that, okay, no, and pull out other stuff instead. She loved it and said I need to come over whenever she is going out! I had the jewelry, the purse, the shoes and the belt all organized.

I think if I felt I was going to do it as a job it would be harder for me.

I also check for my cell phone and blackberry all of the time, before I go out and while I am out.

" I knew rationally that I checked something (say the stove for example), but it''s like my mind was in a fog and I would doubt myself. Did I really see that it was off? Maybe I should check it again. It''s like I didn''t trust my own perception that in fact the oven knob was turned off and I had to keep checking it over and over. " Quote from Diamondsrock (I have to figure out how to quote properly, anyhow!!)

Diamondsrock, that so well sums up what I am like, spot on. I will have to show my DH this, as I couldnt have explained it better myself.

i read a stat somewhere about OCD and that something like 80% of the general population has some form of OCD but that most won't even really recognize it as OCD...but more like just a behavior they have always done their whole life. it's so true, i feel like almost everyone i know has some 'thing' that they are funny about.

OCD is obsessive compulsive disorder. some people just have the O. some have the O and C. the O is just to obsess, C is to 'do something' about the obsession, aka obsess over germs on your hands, compulsively wash your hands.

i also do the double checking of things, esp of the house when i am leaving to make sure i didn't leave my flat iron on. esp with portia in the house, i am always worried something will happen, the house will catch fire then she can't get out or something. greg is kind of particular about cleanliness in the kitchen, aka can't stand to see dishes in the sink, has to wash them or put them in the dishwasher. i am weird about funny things like air blowing on me when i am sitting or sleeping. oh and i am a total hand washer thanks to being raised by my mom that way...she also was a total germophobe...if anyone came over to the house and had shoes on we had to vacuum when they left, and if they used the bathroom we had to clean the toilets!! now when i do things like we take the train or i sit in the airport, i make sure i wear washable clothes only so that i can come home and take them off and wash them immediately. we also always had to change our clothes when we came home from school --something i still do when coming home from work or being out somewhere!

so yeah i feel like almost everyone has their 'funny thing' that they just consider odd, but not OCD.

they tend to think they are being 'particular' about something.

My oldest has OCD. It tends to be a hereditary trait, and I see milder versions in both myself and my hubby. In my son I noticed the tendency toward compulsive actions when he was in kindergarten but did not know about his thoughs til later. Meaning I saw him do certain things but did not know what he was thinking. Now I know he worried that if he did not touch the lightswitch three times something bad would happen to someone in our family.

Many many people suffer from varying degrees of this. It can be quite miild and the person just thinks this is a quirk in their personality. However, some people suffer from very severe levels of this and it can get to the point of the person not being able to leave their home or function normally. I think as long as it is mild and does not interfere with your life, it is not so terrible. I can honestly say that NOT ONE person I know has escaped having some form of this. I have friends that HAVE to sit on one side of a booth only, or have to go over their order in a restaurant 6 times to make sure everything is just so. I know people that check their cell phone for missed calls repeatedly even if it did not ring. I know people who cannot drive unless they check their seat belt tons of times...having a son with it has made me more aware of these behaviors which I might have dismissed as quirks but now see as indications of some form of OCD.

I have friends that have severe OCD - he is the germ OCD, she is the neat OCD. You can''t use the left side of the sink in their kitchen and they ripped up all the carpet when their cat had an accident on it once. However, they just had a baby so perhaps the OCD level will come down a bit. I''m not so much at home, just a work. Everything has to be in its place or I freak out and stay to fix it all. Hangers are also an odd thing. They all need to face the same way and the items on them have to face the front.

There are few things that I can be OCD about, especially checking the doors to make sure they are locked. I work midnights, so when I am sleeping, I''m home all day by myself, and I cannot fall asleep until I am absolute certain that the doors are locked. Also like others said, I double and triple check to make sure that my alarms is set so I won''t oversleep. I am somewhat paranoid about being late!
