I'm in the U.S. A friend of mine in NZ recently got married and I'd like to send a gift. But the problem is it's been 13 years since I've been down there so I have no idea what you can easily get. I'd like it to be something for the home. She sent me three really pretty handmade tiles from a local artist when I got married. It has to be something that can ship easily.

The couple is in their mid-30s and bought a house a year ago, if that helps. Any ideas?

Also, do people generally have registries? If so I could always check those out.

People often do wedding registries here. All of your general home-stuff is available, NZ is slowly catching up! :wink2:

I'm not really sure what to recommend as far as gifts go, but anything bought from a store we don't have here would be a treat!

I think you should follow the same concept as her gift of locally made tiles. Is there something specific to your area of the US that you could have locally made? she can then display it somewhere in her house and every time she sees it, is reminded of you.

And because this is a jewellery forum :naughty: if you are from a gem producing state, a pendant (?) with the local state gemstone ..... a montana sapphire? Utah red beryl / bixbite? A Tennessee pearl? Arizona turquoise? Oregon sunstone? A Seattle emerald? (Ok ok I'm stretching with that one, but Seattle is known as the 'emerald city' isn't it?)

If not a gemstone, then How about.... if you are in somewhere like California, ship her a case of wine, then each year she and hubby can have a bottle of "your" wine on their anniversary?

A New England quilt for their bedroom? A painting of beautiful Florida flowers? Etc, etc.

I'm in Nevada...we've got gambling and prostitutes :) Actually we have a lot of silver and gold mining as well.

I think wine would be great, I just need to figure out the shipping logistics. Thanks!

Thank you for the response. I was thinking something from Williams Sonoma maybe. It's hard with the internet since you can pretty much get everything anywhere now days.

Ideally I'd love to get something that falls into the "every time I go to the US I make sure to buy it because it's so expensive/hard to get/unavailable here" category.

LOL, not sure she would be happy if you shipped a local prostitute - her hubby might be tho :naughty: just kidding

Most good wineries will do international shipping on your behalf - just tell them what you want and where.

Ooh gold and silver - there's so many things you could incorporate that into if you used gold/silver leaf or thread.

ETA: how about a really good bottle of Nevada tequila with a silver hip flask? :saint:
