Any Kiwis here? Where to find antique stones in New Zealand?

Heading to New Zealand in a couple of months and wondering if anyone knows of any must visit antique/vintage jewelry stores? Are there any "diamond districts" in New Zealand such as there are in the US and England? Any and all info is warmly appreciated .

Kiwi here.. but diamond district is kinda funny.. there is nowhere in NZ to look at diamonds.. seriously.. its horrible. I work on cruise ships outta Texas and am looking at diamonds through GoodoldGold or Crafted By Infinity.. I suggest you do the same.

Seriously though.. spend your time outdoors and in the scenery.. there aint no diamonds down in NZ!

If I ever get as far as NZ I'll be looking for pearls- the blue pearls are gorgeous and unusual and seem difficult to find anywhere else! Enjoy your trip, the scenery looks amazing.......

Hmmmm well I'm from Auckland and live near the city.. and I dont know of any.. they might exist... but if there not in Auckland (35% of the population of NZ) I dont think they'd be anywhere else either!

Okay - thanks for that Cassius.

Any other Kiwis want to weigh in on this? nzdiamondlover, Chewbacca, iloveblingnz, any of you still around and know of any hidden gems of stores? I am not much for diamonds as a rule, just vintage/antique jewelry in general and was wondering if there are any areas known for vintage jewelry.

Just for the record, I won't be missing out on any of the outdoor activities....have been to NZ a few times in the past few years, and just thought I would make a detour for some vintage shopping this time around (if there is a detour to be had).

There isn't a huge Vintage jewellery scene in New Zealand, you might come across the odd thing at general Antique places but other than RDG which is now closed down there isn't much that is outstanding other than the blue pearls and some carved shells and handmade metal pieces. New Zealand, like Australia isn't that old so there isn't a huge base of Antique stones. There are no diamond districts, no pockets of Antique jewellery shops - what you seek does not exist. I am an Aussie but my Nephew lives in NZ and just married a local girl from Auckland.

Didn't realize they closed shop!! Guess that is what happens when one doesn't have FB....late to the party! I skipped them last year on my trip, promising myself I would stop by the next time...

I agree with all that has been said, I'm not aware of any particular area but I would say your best chance would be in Auckland or Wellington. I did a google search and this one looks promising http://www.antiquejewels.co.nz/.. Here is a list I found of antique places http://www.jewellersnz.co.nz/antique/.. Hope you can find something! I would say NZ is more focused on contemporary jewellery, which I'm sure you will see a lot of on your travels. If you make it as far down as the West Coast of the South Island you could always go gold panning!

Thanks for the links, nzdiamondlover. Graeme Thomson was on my list - I will check out the others, as well.

I have heard about the gold washing up on the beach down the coast...thought it was an urban legend...maybe I will give some gold panning a go!
