I''m very interested in platinum. I love the weight I definitely want a ring with a solid feel to it. I also think that the patina is something kinda cool.

I''m curious to know, are there rings made from metals that have a similar weight to platinum?

palladium, maybe, but it is hard to find.

why not go with platinum if you like it?

I probably will. I''m just curious to know if there are alternatives :)

I got to check out some palladium rings yesterday (looking for wedding bands for my FI) and they look nice...but do not have the density of platinum. Felt more like white gold when it comes to weight.

Still, I like it, and wish there were more options in this metal. It absolutely pained me to pay for platinum with prices the way they are right now. But I couldn''t find a metal I liked better, and a lot of it had to do with the weight...I love feeling the ring on my finger.

I''m having a RHR/cocktail ring made out of palladium. I don''t have it yet, but the research I did said that it is not as dense as platinum as mentioned above, but in other ways it behaves similarly to platinum. For example, it doesn''t need to be rhodium plated, the color is similar to platinum. It also needs to be pollished from time to time, like platinum, it develops a patina over time. The main advantage for me for going palladium is that it is about 1/3 of the price of platinum. It was only somewhat more expensive than white gold. It''s a bit maleable, so it was good for the bezel design I am doing. I''ll start a thread when I get my ring about what I think of palladium.

My e-ring is palladium, and like others have said, although the properties are similar to platinum, the main difference is that the weight is more akin to gold. However, the best thing about the pallaidum in my opinion is that its currently priced SIGNIFICANTLY (even slightly less than gold). Also, it will never need to be rhodium dipped. In fact when I was shown a rhodium dipped ring next to mine, I preferred the palladium color b/c the rhodium looks a little fake.

If you have any other questions about palladium, let me know. Kcourselle, I can''t wait to see your ring! There are so few of us that have chosen the metal. I''m a huge proponent of it!
