Hi! This is my first post, and I have to say that I have learned more about diamonds and engagement rings from these pricescope forums then from anywhere else. Thanks to everyone who participates in opening up dialogue about this very important subject ;)

Here''s my question/situation, and I know there are similar topics out there, so I apologize for any overlap.

I am in love with the HoF repertoire setting:

http://www.heartsonfire.com/#/us/en-us/diamond-collection/view-details.php?item_id=3543&item_name=%20Repertoire%20Select%20Diamond%20Solitaire&style_name=RepSelect&type_id=1&type_name=Rings&subtype_id=1&subtype_name=Engagement%20Rings&type=1

However, this is really out of my bf''s price range. He might try to get it anyway, but with a 1/2 ct center diamond. I would be thrilled with that, but cannot help but wonder if there is a better solution. ~ $7000 for an albeit amazing, but 1/2 ct ring does not seem like the best balance of quality/size/cost.

Does anyone have any ideas of halo settings that are clean/simple/thin the way that the repertoire is? Also, what about the idea of asking a jeweler to replicate the style of the setting? It seems like a big commitment to ask someone to do that and not know how the finished product will look.

Thanks so much for any feedback!!!

Beautiful setting! I''ve seen similar on here for less (I''m pretty sure).

And I''m sure there is more, but I''ll let the experts chime in.

What is your budget? I''m sure they can help you find a great stone with perfect hearts and arrows!

Thanks for the ideas so far! I like both, especially the whitefire setting, which I haven''t noticed before, but I do think it looks a lot like the repertoire.

The budget is apprx 4000-6500. Ideal carat size is a little less the 1, like .75 and up.

Okay so... someone please post of pic of the HoF piece, that site HATES ME with an abiding passion, I can never get it work for me.

Now, your budget includes the setting, and you want a hearts and arrows stone.

Can you tell us what color, clarity you would like an whether a ''near'' H&A with ideal PERFORMANCE would work for you? It might help eek a little more out of your budget. I''m not ENCOURAGING you to go this route, just asking a question. If you are set on true superideal H&A we will see what we can find.

Now about the setting... metal? Are you okay with white gold?

Sure can...

Here is another link to the same setting, but on a different website. (btw- does anyone know what the deal is w/ that website, I don''t see how they could be advertising that ring for that price...)

As far as the stone goes, I just want it to be beautiful and sparkly :) (not very helpful, I realize). But, color-wise, I would say up to an H or I, and clarity, as long as it is eye clean.

As far as the cut, Ideal w/ h&a would be ideal, but if it is close, and beautiful, then I would of course, still be very happy. I guess I am prioritizing the cut, but the end goal is to have a colorful, sparkling stone.

I am open to any metal, and we even saw a rose gold setting that was gorgeous. The thing is though, that I am probably nickle sensitive, so white gold w/ palladium would be necessary.

This is very exciting, thanks for your interest!

Also, I won''t be able to respond until Sunday, but will be looking forward to reading any posts then!

Many thanks treefrog.

Someone had a Simon G setting like that too. With the airline. I'll do some sleuthing as soon. The nickle part is good to know. I know Wink won't work with Palladium anymore.

Beverly K has some settings, new ones that are like that in style. Pearlmans can get ideal cut stones in (though the listing on their site doesn't reflect that, you'd have to email them) and they are BevK dealers. And a while back someone said they got better pricing from Pearlmans and went with them because of total package pricing (buying setting and stone from them). Honestly most jewelers are closed now. So... it would be monday that you'd be following up anyway. Wonder if Bev K works with Palladium. I know Ritani does.

I am pretty new here so by me saying I''ve never heard of Vialuxe doesn''t mean much. From what I saw, however, you can''t order from them. Put in your zip code and it will show vendors that carry the HoF line.

I think it''s safe to say if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. I am pretty sure you couldn''t get any .95 G/H HoF diamond alone for the price they listed, let alone the ring and the .88 in side HoF diamonds.

We''ll look around for you. Have a good weekend.

http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/6051/ "near" Ideal. If eyeclean, looks like it would be really lovely. Great size for the price. 2500 leaves you enough left to find the right setting. SINCE you think you will need palladium. I would recommend Ritani, cause I know they carry it, and they have a TON of settings (I mean just loads)... the collection you might like a lot is the Bella Vita, and then Endless Love, and I particularly like some of their "Modern" collection. And GOG is a Ritani Dealer, and they can help you with one stop shopping and if you WANT an airline (that''s what the space between the frame of diamonds and the diamond itself is called) like the HoF, they would be the ones who would be best able to tell you which settings can accomodate that.

Finally. IF your budget CAN go up to 6500... there is another setting option GOG could facilitate for you. www.artofplatinum.com Leon Mege makes many settings in that style and many consider him to be one of the best in terms of Pave settings. And for 4K (asuming 2500 for the diamond)... you can mostly likely (this is a guess, but an educated one) get something very much like what you want, in platinum, from him. NOW... please do a search on Leon to see what other''s experiences have been with him. His work is beautiful, I have seen much of it in person. But his temperment and customer service can be... uneven. Which is why I said that GOG might be willing to "facilitate" for you... because they might (and you would have to ask) be willing to coordinate and communicate with him for you... so you would really only be dealing with GOG (great customer service, do a search) and you would be getting a setting that could easily, in many PSer''s opinion, give HoF a run for their money.

Sparkle Blinded, welcome to PS! You didn't happen to originally see the HOF Repertoire on a recent trip to Las Vegas, did you?

This is the cost of the semimount:
http://www.lussori.com/hearts-on-fire-repertoire-select-diamond-solitaire-ring-mounting-semi-mount.html

Then you can pick out your diamond, which doesn't have to be HOF. I do have a HOF and practically live at my jeweler's store. This particular ring seems to be pretty well prices, IMO.
There ya go. EXACT setting you want. Get a lovely 2500 diamond and good to go. Perfect.

http://www.highperformancediamonds.com/index.php?page=view-id-diamond-infinity&id=198 Thought I'd put this one on the table if you go that route. Um.. check on eyeclean of that puppy if you decide to consider it.

Wow- you guys are amazing! Thanks for the research time!!!

Some questions- HoF says that they don''t service the rings if "another" diamond is in their setting ;) This does bring up the question though, how often do sidestones fall out, and how big of a cost/issue is it to have them replaced? The question is; would it be worth it for the service/warranty to have the whole ring from HoF, or is this easily remedied by having a good jeweler for cleaning and repairs?

Second question; has anyone seen the whiteflash rings/diamonds? I do like the suggestion that jsm gave,
http://www.whiteflash.com/Engagement-Rings/Styles/Diamond-Settings/Amphora-Diamond-Engagement-Ring_1380.htm

but I wonder how it looks in person.

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Nope- I saw it in a jewelry store in the SF Bay Area, after requesting one to be fed-exed in.

I had a WF ACA diamond before I got my HOF. It was a beautiful stone. I wouldn''t hestitate to work with WF on the entire ring. The Amphora looks like a stunning setting, but I have not seen IRL. When I first had my ACA in a HOF setting, my HOF jeweler was willing to do service/warranty work on my ring. After all, I bought the setting from them and it was their responsibility. Were you told this by your jeweler or is it a new HOF policy?

Marian-

The jeweler said that HoF would not repair or service the setting once another, non-HoF, stone was set in the ring. I wrote HoF to ask them directly, and will let you know what they say. But, about Whiteflash, that is very good to know, thanks for letting me know about your experience with them.

Not to hijack the thread - but could you explain why you got rid of your ACA in favor of a HOF?

Both the ACA and the HOF are stunning diamonds. I do better with a local B&M due to the services that they provide for me. I'm a "high maintenance" consumer and really need someone who is available to change stones, settings, provide discounts [not on HOF
39.gif
] and take jewelry pieces in trade--and do it quickly. That being said, I just had my setting changed and my jeweler came up with some great suggestions, using a HOF semimount and a Saturn Jewels custom made wedding band. I was able to be hands on throughout the process. I'm willing to pay the premium for a gorgeous stone and excellent customer service.
