I read some Napa wineries are doing sales since it’s been slow. I’m not a drinker so I don’t know enough to do this on my own. I would like to surprise my mom with some nice wine though. If anyone knows of any places doing nice online sales please let me know.

I used to live in South Africa, and I understand that South Africa has some of the best wines in the world. I don't know of any well known brands/wineries because I was a kid when I left, but here is what one of my old SA friend posted on FB:

Please encourage family and friends in the UK to please buy South African wines! You could make the difference in keeping our wine industry alive and securing the livelihood of the thousands of farm workers and their families. This new ban on alcohol (13 July 2020) could decimate what is left of the wine industry. And who knows, you might find a new wine to fall in love with!

This is the second ban on alcohol since lockdown. First one lasted months. Please do try our lovely wines! Thank you so much! I know that you alone could actually save our wine South African wine industry!

Thanks! I’ll Google that to see what I can find.

Where is your mom located? Many wineries hold shipments during the summer months because the heat can damage the wines. Shipping typically resumes when the weather cools in the fall unless you want to pay for expedited, cold chain shipping.

During summer, it’s best to stick with local pickups and deliveries.

You might want to check out wineberserkers.com. The members there often post about deals. A lot of wineries will have special offers via email and phone calls to their mailing lists without advertising publicly.

Thanks for the tips! My mom is in HI. Shipping there is always terrible so I figured I’d have limited options as is...

I’m a fan of Las Jaras wines. They’re always interesting and boutique, not expensive, beautiful labels.

There are wineries that will ship to HI right now, and one of them is even running 50% overnight shipping, but considering that you can find their wines at Safeway, it doesn’t seem like it’s worth it.

Basically, you’d want to hit a combo of:
-ships to Hawaii
-not widely available there
-running some sort of deal right now

I think this would be easier if you knew what wines she loves and can’t find there. If she likes to try new things then it might be easier to have a local shop work with your budget and put together a custom case for her.

International shipping isnt all that great into or out of here right now because there just isnt anywhere near the nornal volume of airoplane coming in from overseas

durring the lockdown when everything got way too hard when people in the UK were out dog walking 5 times a day and i couldn't get a super market delivery or find affordable nutritious fresh food my friend in America cheered me up by sending me a box of local wine from here in NZ
it got here the next day !
i had not tried their wine before so it was a great surprise
My friend then found a US supplier and ordered her self a few bottles

I am sure you mom will be appreciative of your gift

@OreoRosies86 thanks! I’ll check them out.

@JPie I know she likes reds but she’s not super picky. I might call some places in my state since we actually have quite a few wineries. I figured she’d just appreciate some day drinking on me now that she has to be home all the time.:))

@Daisys and Diamonds That sounded super familiar so I looked it up and their shipping is $101 to HI. :(

They weren’t who I thought they were but it definitely seems fun to have international wine! Your friend was so kind to have sent that to you!
