Any Experience with Ianelli Diamonds?

Hi

I have another friend of a friend kind of situations going on right now, saying to check out Ianelli Diamonds in the Diamond District in NYC. Has anyone had any experience with them? Are they reliable? Do they over charge or have competitive prices? Do they have nice settings etc.? I want to gather a list and research a few places rather than walk in blindly.

Any info. would be greatly appreciated!

I''ve never bought from them, but pop in from time to time because they are friends of a friend. I do like what I''ve seen in terms of diamonds and prices.

hi,

i went into their store once (when i was looking to get myself a rhr) and they seemed nice. the man (i think the owner) wasn''t pushy or aggressive at all. i''m not sure about their prices though.

i''m currently working with ID Jewelry for my ering (they''re located in the diamond district but i actually found them thru ps). their prices are very competitive (even matching or beating the lowest prices listed by other ps vendors). their customer service is great too.

This is pretty funny. I don''t know if anyone remembers me talking about my original ering that had a horribly cut .5 ct that I have since had recut and put into a pendant but I bought it at Ianelli Brothers 27 years ago. I won''t bad mouth these guys too much because it''s been so many years and it may have just been the 2 salesmen I worked. They sold me an F VVS1 and sent me down the street, escorted by one of them, to get an appraisal. The appraisal came back E VVS1. Boy was that a set-up. When I got home and had another jeweler look at it he pretty much laughed and said it was full of inclusions, a feather and carbon dots. I have been told it is "brown".

If everyone is getting good service from them today I will assume the sleezy salesmen are gone and they aren''t dupping people any more with the "appraisal down the street" service.

Swingirl: Wow! That was a long time ago, but it''s stories like yours that really scare my BF and I from buying jewelry from small stores. It makes me feel like I should go over to GIA and take a course to become a Graduate Gemologist just to buy this ering! We both hate the idea of getting duped. Thanks so much for sharing.

I'm not sure that the people who run Ianelli's now were doing so then. They look too young.

Well that''s why I gave the time frame. It was originally a family business and was called Ianelli Brothers, same location. No business would be run the same for 20 years. I just thought it was funny that they insisted on walking me down the street to the appraiser, like they were doing me a favor. I can just imagine the salesman making a quick call to the "appraiser" to tell him what grade this stone was supposed to be. I am guessing it was a "courtesy" they did for each other. I was sure naive!!

But there is so much more information out there today --PS and the internet where people can research things. I still would rather work with someone who came with a good reputation than take a chance on someone no one''s heard of.

I agree with you, but I wanted to caution against a rush to judgement. I''m sorry about your dreadful experience. What was the diamond district like at that time? I can''t imagine!
