been looking at this gordon clark setting at a local jeweler:

has anyone had any experience w/ gc settings? this is in 18k gold...
two questions i have - i asked the jeweler about using platinum prongs and they said i don''t need it, that 18k gold will be fine - is that okay? seems i only see platinum mentioned (for durability i assume), but of course maybe this setting doesn''t lend itself to using platinum?
also, the head sticks out (side to side) from the ring itself - we intend to just get simple wedding bands, not the shaped band included here - is that going to be a problem, with the regular band rubbing up against this head? i.e., a band would not fit flush with this ring because of the head sticking out a bit.
