i''ve been following this seller for several months now. he will often put the same item up for auction twice, a regular auction and a separate buy-it-now auction. he has changed his return policy so that there has to be significant misrepresentation for him to accept a return. i became interested in his auctions because he said that one of his listings had been appraised by david atlas, whom we''re familiar with on PS. so i figured this was a serious seller.
anyway, according to the fine print:
"Grossly misrepresented does not mean from F color to G color or VS1 to VS2. Grossly misrepresented means, VS clarity to an I clarity, or a white stone F to a yellow K color."
as tempting as it may be, i wouldn''t buy an OEC from this seller, especially if it''s advertised as VS-SI clarity. There''s already a sizable difference between VS1 and SI2, so that means a gross representation would be SI2 to ???. and H to M?
if you''re fine with the price and the return policy, you should buy what you love. the seller is very friendly and sent me extra photos of a stone. however, i don''t care for their return policy, so i''ll pass...
take a look at this. it ended march 23:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=250226506128&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=015
isn''t this the same ring? why was it described as 1.55ctw, H color, VS to SI clarity, approximately 7-7.5mm, and now it is now 1.45ctw and measuring approximately 7.0mm? is it a different stone in the same setting?
My guess is that someone bought it and returned it because they had it appraised and it was misrepresented. So he adusted the listing a little so that now it won''t appraise "significantly" lower than he posted.
everyone who commented here gave good advice. i would only add that the diamond just doesnt look good based on the pics anyway, no way is it what is decribed as far as clarity. the grossly misdescribed return policy is a recipie for disaster. never buy from ebay if there is no unconditional return policy, period. if there is nothing to hide, then the return policy should be straight forward.
