Hi,

Is it normal for the jeweler to keep the customers loose diamond (purchased at another store) for 2-3 weeks to set into a custom designed ring?

We both verified the Diamond’s condition and the GIA Laser Inscription for verification.

What is the likely chance for the Dealer to switchout the diamond and Laser Inscribing it to another diamond?

I didn’t leave my GIA report with her since I wanted to make sure my Diamond has the same inclusion as described when I picked it up.

I also have it insured, and they gave me the written contract stating they will be liable for any theft, or damage while under their care.

Any other recommendation?

Thank you

I think you'll be fine, I've my diamond ring for over 6 weeks with a jeweler while a new ring design was made. I'm pretty sure the jeweler doesn't want to tarnish his reputation over one diamond

.

When you get it back, to verify that you have the right diamond, get it independently appraised

It is definitely easier to have the diamond on-hand when building a custom ring and most jewelry designers want the diamond for that purpose when designing a ring... So the request is not unusual.

It looks like you''ve taken some good precautions and I expect you will verify the diamond by the same means when you pick it up... You''re off to a good start.

I don't think you will have a problem, plus it has an inscription so it is identifiable - sounds like you have everything well covered!

Make a note of the inclusions within the diamond - and the stone's measurements.
It would be extremely difficult to get a diamond with similar inclusions; they're like a fingerprint. That's why I don't like flawless stones - because they only have a GIA number as identifier.
VS2-SI1 is an ideal clarity grade for most people to be able to see their own inclusions with a 10x magnifier (but the stone should be eye clean).
At VS1 and above, inclusions can be very hard to find even with a 10x lens, unless they're under the table.

Ditto all the above. Just have the finished product check out with an independent appraiser if you are still worried.

Thank you so much for the input~

The diamond has 1 little point (VVS1) not visible from the front. I think I only know where it is since I didn''t leave the GIA report with her.

I think it will be very hard to find another rock with similar point on the location.

Thank you very much.
