So I have been a long term lurker here and am finally ready to make an engagement ring purchase. I picked out a stone at diamondsafe.com but can''t find any reviews of the site on this forum
7.gif

Stone details:
.98CT Round
I color (faint blue fluorescence)
Ideal EGL US cut
HCA 1.2
$2300

The stone will go into a semi-bezel setting. As I understand it that will help the color (as well the fluorescence)

Any thoughts? Good price and reputable dealer? Or should I keep looking...

Hi and welcome!

Here is some additional information that will be useful, so that people can give you some feedback.

Do you have the crown and pavilion angles from the EGL report, along with girdle thickness, table size, depth?

Have you seen the stone in person, or did the seller provide a photo, Idealscope images?

FYI I am looking for a setting like this one but in white gold. (She is a chef and I have been adviced that the white gold will hold up better than platinum would.)

I have not seen the stone only the EGL report (US). More info:
Measurements: 6.41x6.36x3.83
depth 60%
table 57%
crown 14.1%
pavilion 42.6%
Crown angle 35.1
Pavilion angle: 40.7
Girdle: thin to medium (faceted)
polish: excellent
Symmetry: very good
Fluor: faint blue
cutlet: n/a
cut grade: ideal plus

Numbers look promising.

What do you mean by hold up better?

Because she works a lot with her hands I am worried about the ring getting scratched. Given the thickness of the band (4mm) a scratched band will be more noticeable. I was told the platinum would look worn more quickly than white gold.

Depends on the Pt alloy use. Some Pt alloy, for example, Pt950/Ru or Pt950/Co, is harder than WG, so it is more scratch resistant.

Thanks for the info!

For anyone interested I diamondsafe seems to have great prices. I found the same stone (same cert #) on another site for $300 more. Also a friend from school (and his father) has ordered there in the past and had good experiences.

Good luck. :)
