Here are photos of a ring my grandmother bought a while ago from a distant relative. I am not sure if she wore it herself on a regular basis or just purchased to one day hand down to me.

That is EXQUISITE!!! I love all that detail work - almost like a VanCraynest setting! It is a beautiful family heirloom - I hope your grandmother can enjoy it for a while as well, before it becomes yours.

Love it!! Keep posting pics - I would never tire of viewing that ring!!!

What a beautiful ring! The diamond looks really well cut, too.

Thank you! My grandmother earned her MFA from the Art Institute of Chicago many years ago and went on as a high school art teacher until she retired. She also painted and sold her work on a small scale. Needless to say, she had a good eye :)

Libby & Junebug - Thanks! I have never seen a setting like it yet either and I wish I had more information about the maker and it's history. Like I said before my grandmother bought it from a distant relative, so there wasn't any sentimental value (for her), so she probably did not think to ask about its history.

Enerchi, ForteKitty, GemFever, and Rosebloom: Thank you all for your comments. When the ring came to me over 10 years ago, I thought it was beautiful. Since joining PS in 2007, I have learned so much about diamonds that I can really observe differences between old cuts and new cuts, so now I appreciate the stone and setting even more. It's fun to hold my modern rb next to this ring to compare how they perform.

lovely ring! the 'prongs' are fantastic. the way they are dainty and part of the design

I love everything about it!! That setting is just fantastic!! Love the design on the sides and the use of the small stones in the design.

Goodness, how gorgeous!! Love the setting, sure looks like a die struck piece to me

I esp love heirlooms like these.

Wear in much happiness and in memory of your G-Ma (as my kids call my mom) :appl: :appl: :appl:

What a treasure! Wear it in much health and happiness!

I love the sides of the ring! A wonderful heirloom!
