Of suicide at 61 years old. It is a very sad day.

I'm shocked as well as saddened. Every time I watched his show I thought - wow, I want this guy's life. :cry2::cry2:

:cry2: We never know what someone else is struggling with.
The world lost a decent and kind man.

When someone is decent, sees people, and feels deeply, as I suspect was the case with Anthony Bourdain, the world around them can take it's toll. I am so saddened by his loss.

Saddened...may he rest in peace.

This hit me extra hard, not only was I a big fan of Anthony but my brother took his life at 61 too. It is a tragedy.

I am sorry for your loss.

Thanks tk, suicide is so difficult to understand. How can one with so much talent and success be so desperate to take their life. :cry2:

No... ;( what an awful week.

I liked his style, his humor and his honesty. How can these people just kill themselves when they have left two daughters to grieve? I read once, when the pain of living is worse than the pain of dying a person will commit suicide. He was just so funny, cool and natural. So sad.

Had they reported that it was from an accidental drug overdose or acute alcohol toxicity I would not have been surprised. But I have to admit that this really shocked me. I am so sad.

He was in my class. Normal guy......believe it or not. "Les Halles" was one of our favorite restaurants. We were young evolving foodies!

Hey Rocks, so sorry about the loss of your friend. He seemed normal to me and that is what I especially enjoyed about him, he was honest too. Peace to you and all who were his friends, so heartbreaking I am sure.

Thanks, but I didn't know him well. Small school. Tragic.

Yes, this has been a shocking week. My heart goes out to everyone who is or has been affected.

I’m so sorry to hear this. I didn’t catch his shoes often, but always enjoyed them when I did. He seemed to have this huge love of life and respect for the people he encountered.

I didn't expect this to kick my butt like it did. I fell back asleep exhausted till 2:00 pm.

Yesterday I saw in celeb news an actor from sons of anarchy also died. the glamorous life is not always so glamorous...:(sad

It has been a strange and sad week. Not only two celebrities, but several random people posted about their friends taking own lives. (Among them, teenagers, as always, the saddest group).

My thoughts, as always, are with Bourdain's child, it is not an easy burden to bear.

Anthony Bourdain had the seemingly rare talent of being able to identify and communicate the basic humanity and goodness of different people and cultures. We need more people like that. He gave me not just amazing views of rarely covered peoples and parts of the world; but also provided in some ways an ideal to personally live up to (although I cannot try all the food due to food allergies). I will miss him.

At this point the French Police has released that there are no signs of foul play, and are running tests to see if he had any unusual levels of drugs. That may take a few weeks to finalize.

Of course, not seeing obvious evidence of foul play does not mean that there might not have been... and he did recently offend a certain group by doing a segment on a population/area that that group is at odds with. I personally believe could have been involved. We will likely never know... and the reality is that it could indeed have been a suicide.

Suicide is very difficult; and I personally have found that the only people who seem to really understand it are people like myself who came very near to committing suicide once (in my case - my early 20's); and then worked their way out of the situation. I rarely meet and talk to people who have done that - I suspect in part that few people are willing to share that they once almost committed suicide and had to work their way out of that. The few conversations I have had have been extremely enlightening. While there are some common elements in the base structure of suicidal situations; the issues that drive people there are vast in scope and range; and people can be otherwise functioning very well (and present a false face that everything is going well).

People are very complex... and I don't believe that anyone has ever received perfect education and training as a child and into adulthood on how to deal with issues in life. More common I believe is that most people have been raised with conflicts and poor education and habits on how to deal with issues.

I hope that none of you face that in the future; and that you can appropriately recognize a problem with a freind or family and respond in a way that allows them to open up to you on their issues.... That is a start... although likely not a full solution.

Have a great day,

Perry
