Hubby and I went on yet another jewelry shopping tour (I think he is all done!!!). And we COMPLETELY agreed on a 5-stone ring 1 ctw with shared prong setting. It was very different than the 5 stone we saw before with a bar setting, and we both LOVED it. With that decision squared away, I started reading on here and looking at prices online.

Heres my choices...trying to stay under $2K

http://www.thefacetscollection.com/item.cfm?item_id=2428 (.81 ctw, FG, VVS-VS) $1870 in wg. This same ring in 1.01 ctw is $2600 ouch

http://www.bluenile.com/product_details.asp?oid=5392&catid=8&filter_id=0&nav1=band_channel.asp&page=1&col=3&row=3&pos=9&set_shape= (.98 ctw, H, SI2) $1450 with a 10% coupon.

I think I know the answer here, but will the better cut of the SP ring more than make up for what Im losing in tcw?
Any guesstimates on this ring from SP in GH, VS, in 1 ctw? I did email them asking.
Basically, am I gonna notice a big difference visually going down to 16 pointers from 20 pointers? Thats a $700 difference for .2 ctw. Worth it?

TIA! Jo

Hi Jo!

I''m not by any means an expert at all, however, since you are seeking opinions, I thought I would share. I much prefer the scalloped sort of look of the first ring (The Facets Collection) to he second ring (Blue Nile). Additionally, I think that there is something to be said about the first ring coming in with both higher color & clarity grading F/VS vs H/Si2.

With reference to your question, in my humble opinion, I believe that you may be onto something with your shared prong theory about them making up the difference b/n what you may be losing in carat weight if you were to select the second ring.

I really don''t think you''ll feel/see the carat difference that much or at all given the type of ring this is.

They are both beautiful and one of them will make a lovely choice! Good luck with your decision ... Let us know what you decide!

Thanks Sparkalicious! That is just what I wanted to hear! I strongly prefer the styling and quality of the Facets ring. I do not want to get it and think...man, that looks a lot smaller than the one I tried on (It was a 1 ctw). I am guessing that unless I held the two rings side by side, I wont really notice. I think the general size and feel and bulk on my finger will be very close. If anyone disagrees, please let me know. I am a complete novice. This will be my first real diamond purchase and I dont want regrets, but $700+ extra for a .2 increase across 5 stones doesnt seem worth it...

Thanks again, I am anxious to make a decision and turn it over to hubby to surprise me later.

Thanks again! Jo

I''m with Sparkalicious... I like the scalloped look better and I definitely like the higher color.

i''ll vote again for the facets

Thanks so much everyone! I'm glad everyone agreed. I was pretty sure about that decision. I will just await their quote on the 1 ctw with the GH, VS stones, and make my choice then. I think I will probably go for the slightly decreased color and clarity if I can get the 1 ctw for a good price, but Im definitely going with Signed Pieces! They really are great prices considering the cut, and after all my reading, I know that can make ALL the difference!

Will keep you posted!
