Divinehalo, I would just soak pave set stones.

Spike, you can clean silver in an US - I think I''ve seen different cleaners to use on it as well.

Oooh, good timing for this thread, LC!

I just ordered an Ikohe Mini Ultrasonic to tide me over until I can do more research on the sturdier ones, but it has 43 KHz Frequency (this site has the best photo of it: http://www.lacywest.com/28ultras.htm , but mine was $99.00 CAD from Page & Wilson out of Vancouver).

The Elma ultrasonics are made in Germany and are what many of my local jewelers use: http://www.lacywest.com/tech/Elma_Series_H.pdf and http://www.lacywest.com/tech/Elma_Series_S.pdf. I''d love to know if anyone has any feedback on their cleaning capability.

This is the Ikohe...

I hope that''s just a generic, stock picture of some sorts? I thought you weren''t supposed to put pearls in a US, period. Are pearls really allowed with that model, or are they just trying to promote the idea of cleaner jewelry in general?

Yikes, how crazy is that! I think the photo was probably made in China along with the box - the vendors gave me a quick tutorial on what not to put in the US, which seemed to included any stone softer than a diamond.

He is one selling on a US website site for $38.97. When I used to sell these I never had one complaint. They have a 1 year warranty, too. Shipping is additional at this price level, of course. I am not selling these or an agent for them.

If you look closely, you'll find this is a style made in China and sold by many other names. Some places sell them as high as $99. There is no reason to pay so much more for what amounts to the same ultrasonic with a "branded" name on it. The internals of these 42HZ units are all about the same regardless of their out plastic skins and tank shapes.

I just bought one US that looks just lik the one in the picture above. With shipping and no tax I paid $36.94. Colors look a little different, but description is the same. It it the same model?

As soon as I get it, I''ll post comments if anybody is interested.

That's exactly the point I was making. They may well be the same unit inside and function alike. NOTE: ONLY a 90 day warranty.
The price on these has been falling in the past 12 months, but I see no reason beyond competiitive forces at work for consumers.

It''s 90 days without regestration, and 1 year with the registration. I had to click on the warranty link to see that. (At least I hope that''s what they mean, you never know anymore)

Thanks!

Okay, the Crest 175HT is on Order!!!

Yay! I think you''ll like it.

I think I will, Ellen. I am just so tired to crappy things lasting about 30 seconds, that I do believe that I can''t afford to buy cheap stuff anymore!!! To many years of sparkly bling!!!

Exactly.

The half gallon capacity of the crest seems too large. Is there a downside to having a larger capacity. I read above that the ultrasonic ''heats'' the water. If this is the case, the larger capacity is certainly wasteful.

The half gallon was the smallest model Crest makes.

Please let us know your experiences with it! I''d love a review of the Crest!

I think I''m going to go with a cheap version and see how long it lasts. If it breaks in a few months, I''ll just be out $20 and will feel justified in getting the Crest. If it lasts a year or more, It will be worth it.

This will be my 4th purchase so I am definitely going to get a stainless stell tank this time. I''ve had a Blizt, a SI and some generic that was battery operated. They were all plastic and started leaking or cracked within about a year. I don''t want a hugh one though that needs a quart or gallon of water / cleaner.

So the Crest arrived! That is one serious industrial piece of equipment! So I fired it up and dumped the bling in. Holy cow!!! It is amazing. My old ultrasonic was doing nothing compared to this thing!! Two thumbs up.

And I''ll tell ya, I have experimented quite a bit. If you soak your stuff a few minutes in Dawn water, and hand brush clean first, rinse, and then use the US, nothing can beat that for ultra cleaning.

I do this once every couple weeks, and it''s truly THE way to get your stuff as squeaky clean as it can possibly be.

Thanks for the info ladies. My Blitz US should arrive today but Ellen I am going to try to Dawn trick on the weekend. That is how I clean my emeralds and they come out great.

Ellen, what do you use for cleaning solution in your Crest?

I am using Mr. Clean and hot water. I tried Dawn once, however this was before I had the sink drainer thing. I was using a metal (?) tea strainer, and when I pulled my stuff out, everything was covered in a white coating that had to be scrubbed off. I don't know if it was just a chemical reaction between the Dawn and the strainer, or just the Dawn. I have been reluctant to try it again, because I don't want to have to deal with getting the film off again. I should though, as Dawn definitely cleans better overall. But using the two together in steps still does a fab job!

Thanks Ellen. I used Mr. Clean with a drop of Sunlight, and it seemed to work okay.
