Wedding Another Rehearsal Dinner Question

We're marrying on a Friday morning at 11 AM.

When would YOU have the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner for a Friday morning wedding?

Thursday evening, maybe a little later in the evening so if people are coming after work (? - would they be?) it''s possible. If your bridal party will be in town all day Thursday, then it would be whenever - maybe even a lunch, but I would probably still have it evening.

I originally wanted Thursday evening, but now my FFIL says he wants us to move it to Wednesday because he doesn''t have to work that day. (Mind you, he owns his business, so technically he doesn''t have to work ANY day, but I''m not going to get into that.)

My concern with a Wednesday evening rehearsal is two-fold: First, our OOT guests wouldn''t be able to make it because they are flying in during the day Thursday. Second, our entire bridal party would have to drive out to the suburbs on Wednesday after work, and then again Thursday night or Friday morning. If we did the rehearsal Thursday night, then all of our BP would only have to make that trip once. (They ALL live in the city, and most are working on Thursday, so that''s a bit of an inconvenience, I fear.)

Thoughts? I really would prefer to do it Thursday evening, but my FFIL is a difficult man and I''m not sure it''s worth rocking the boat on this one. (NOT that he''s even going to end up hosting the rehearsal dinner, as he hasn''t said a thing about it, but that''s another story.)

Haven - you''re getting married on the 4th of July, correct? I would probably have a rehearsal around 2.30 or 3 pm, then a late afternoon/early evening BBQ or cocktail/hors d''oeuvres party. That should allow you to have a nice evening with friends and family, and get to bed early!

Good question. We're getting married on a Saturday at 11AM, so I asked myself the same question. Our priest told us they like to do the rehearsals on the Friday one week before the wedding, so that took care of it. Nobody who's involved in the wedding is more than an hour away, so everyone's fine with it.

Would it be possible for you to have it one week in advance?

I know you don''t want to rock the boat, but it sounds like having the rehearsal the night before your wedding would work best for everyone else involved. I''d find a way to explain that to your FFIL and have it on Thursday. I don''t understnd why he isn''t comfortable having the it then. I know you said he has to work, but if he owns his own business, I would think he could easily tell his boss he needs the time off.

Honestly, I think my FFIL just likes to be in control of things. I can''t even imagine that he''ll be working the day before our wedding. The other thing is that my FI''s brother also runs the business with their father, so if his father isn''t working on Wednesday that means FI''s brother IS--and FI''s brother is the BEST MAN!

Oy, this is turning into a mess. I think I''m just going to say that we already told our Rabbi and the synagogue that we''ll be doing the rehearsal Thursday night, and we can''t ask them to change now.
