Another reason I support Costco

I don't know, Kenny. Is our family the only one with gay members in our family tree who have successful, hard-working, intelligent personalities and great jobs. They are funny and a delight to be with and I think they enjoy fitting into society and not being singled out by a "DEI" designation.

It could be the fact that they are much younger than you or me but they're not the latest generation either. I judge people by who they are, not what they are and I think most do the same now. I know there are phobics out there but should we discriminate against gay/transgender people by pointing them out and making them "special"?

I will admit I am totally against transgender males in biological women's sports strictly because of the biological advantage.

I think I don't quite follow what you wrote here ...

Apple's CEO Tim Cook is gay.
I'd say call him a successful, hard-working, intelligent personality with a great job.

As a gay atheist who also fits your description I'd answer your question, "No, your family is not the only one".
Who said anyone doesn't enjoy fitting into society?
It's more about not being welcome or allowed to fit into society by being denied the opportunities in employment, education, housing, etc.

I also enjoy "fitting into society", but people vary so their definitions of what comprises society will vary too.
To many fitting into society means getting married to the opposite sex, having children, being Christian, being white, buying an American car, even voting a certain way, etc. etc. etc.

Lack of DEI is not a problem caused by minorities not "enjoying fitting into society" as you've put it.
Rather, the source of the DEI problem is the part of 'society' that doesn't want to fully welcome minorities as equals.

IMO, stockholders pressuring companies to get rid of DEI is wrong.
American is a very diverse country full of immigrants and their descendants.
Even Native Americans traveled into this land, long ago.
Look up genetic mapping to prove early migration of humans into the Americas.

You wrote,"I know there are phobics out there but should we discriminate against gay/transgender people by pointing them out and making them "special"?

No.
I don't want to be "special".
I just want to be accepted as equal.
America is not there yet.
The purpose of DEI is to make minorities equal, not special.

Straight white males enjoyed and continue to reap the benefits of centuries of "DEI" on steroids, extreme unearned special privileges over women, minorities and everyone else. So their outcries that DEI isn't fair (because, yanno, they know a rich black lesbian!) are just... no words.

To some very old people that may be the thinking but the world has changed. When I say "fitting in", I mean no extra effort to live our lives, the way we see fit without all this extra gimmickiness. (Yes, I invented the word.. I think.)

For an update, many of the younger generation don't marry or marry and divorce and that option is open to all, any two people can get married in the U.S. and its territories, regardless of their gender.

Of course, there are successful, happy, fulfilled gays... that was tongue in cheek. America is still "not there yet" for women either. But we live our lives effectively and happily changing perceptions as we go.

Many couples now elect not to have children and who cares? Most of us realize some couples or single people or whomever makes that decision, does it for a reason. Few people care what type of car most of us drive.

The point being that most people are okay with live and let live. We will never be able to legislate everyone to be mentally in lock step with everyone else. DEI has no true purpose in my mind. Most can give lip service, such as Costco, and then do everything in their power the opposite of that lip service. I'm not saying Costco does that but I wonder how many of their employees fit the DEI description.

I don't want gays or transgender to be a spectacle I just want them, as in our family, to be everyday Americans living with their choices. There are so many laws now protecting and providing opportunities that didn't exist 25 years ago.

This is my personal perspective and not an attack on those who may think it has a purpose. Who are we as a nation if we can't explain our viewpoints to each other?

I totally disagree.
