Hello all,

(diamondseeker, are you there?

)

I''ve decided that I must make a purchase by the end of July. My gf and I have booked a trip for August and I''d like the big day will happen there...
After weeks and weeks of searching, I THINK i''ve narrowed my choices to the 6 diamonds below, and need your help to decide which one (or two) will be the best choice(s)!
I plan to soon let WF know which 3 or 4 that I''d like to view and hopefully make the purchase then. This diamond would go on a platnium Tiffany-replica 4 prong - so dunno how the I- colored ones would look on it. I''ll email them to confirm the SI1''s are eye-clean as well.
Also, last time I was there, the guy mentioned that visually, I wouldn''t be able to tell the difference between an ACA vs an Expert selection diamond, so I am slightly favoring diamond (B).

Any help will be much appreciated.. thanks alot in advance!

Hi,

If they are ACA''s or ES''s they will ALL be exceptionally beautiful. I think you will probably get mostly comments that will reflect people''s personal tolerances for "how low they will go" in any given characteristic.

Here''s my personal preference, and here''s why:

I''d go for the 1.6, I, SI1 (the D. choice).

It''s the biggest one for the least money on your list. Also, if it''s an ACA, then there''s some reason WF feels the cut is better than that of the ES, which amy or may not be visible to the layman. The one-color-grade-lower than the B. choice (an I vs. and H), most likely won''t be detected by the unaided eye, especially after it''s set.

The last one on the list, even though it''s a decent price, is still paying for more than you need to because it has characteristics the naked eye won''t be able to distiguish from the other stones, at the expense of size.

Good luck! Hope this helps. Let us know what you decide.

Thanks for the replies.

Should I be worried about an I color diamond in a platinum setting? I just came across this quote in my research :

"Because platinum is very white, it shows off colorless diamonds beautifully. But diamonds of ‘I,J and K’ color or lower should be set in yellow gold, because the contrast with a white setting will make your diamond look a little yellowish."

I''d pick D as the first choice; B as the second. ALL of these stones are lovely, but I think D and B represent the best value for the money.

Nope....in fact, I think the opposite is true. I think putting those stones in yellow settings would accentuate the body color. The diamond tends to pick up a bit of color from things around it anyway (which is why you see blue sky color in some of the PS pictures), so putting them in yellow setting will actually have them pick up the yellow a bit.

I have a J pendant and J earrings set in white metal, and they look awesome.

Hi! I''m excited to see you are close to making a decision!

Well, If these were all the same size, I''d choose F, because I think H VS1 is lovely (nice color and clarity...my personal target) and still very cost effective! However, it is so much smaller than the others, and I think you may as well go ahead and get a stone in the 1.5 range.

So, my favorite is B, because I do think H is such a nice color and I love the idealscope on that stone more than the others. It should be a very sparkly stone and I am having difficulty seeing the inclusions even in the magnified picture. I just see no reason to choose an I when a good H is available and within your budget. I''d definitely make sure it is 100% eye-clean from a close distance, though! Good luck and I''ll be excited to see the finished ring!

The quote about having to put I, J and K colored stones in yellow gold is bull-puckey (excuse my harsh language

) In fact, the stones are likely to pick up the yellow and look tinged if set in yellow gold. A properly graded, well cut round brilliant, especially at a 1.5ct size, should face up beautifully white.

Take a look at these and you may feel more comfortable about going with an "I":

My experience was that I actually went with an H, VS2, 3.11ct, ACA, last year. After much back and forth on shape, size, color, etc., I settled on this one because of a small, off-hand comment my husband made about going below an H.

Don''t get me wrong, I''ve loved wearing this ring, but I somewhat regret not having waited until there was an I or J, eye-clean SI2 available so I could have gotten a bigger stone. As it is, I am now in the process of having it reset with side stones (a 1.11ct and a 1.14ct, both J, SI2, ACA''s). The H was in platinum and the three-stone will be in platinum, two J''s sitting right next to an H.

As I said in my earlier post, I think you will get a lot of comments on this question that really reflect people''s own tolerance for where their trade-off limits are.

Is it possible to get both stones in front of you at the same time? That would give you the best answer.

Can''t wait to hear what you decide. And seriously, good luck. Any one of these would be spectacular.

Best,
LizzyD

I like D first then B. They both represent a great value for the money and both look to be awesome stones. Good luck...let us know what you decide

thanks for the replies and advice! Yes, I''ll try to view both of them if available and make the best decision then.
