Glad I found this forum. I've started the process of looking for a ring for my fiancé, and as others here probably, I'm completely intimidated by the process. I feel a little better now that I've educated myself a bit, and looked at diamonds. Wanted to get some opinions on pricing. It seems like all my friends who bought rings recently got much better deals - so not sure If i'm missing anything.
In short, i'm looking for a round stone. My total budget for the ring is around 13K - so i'm looking to spend anywhere between 10K and 11K for the rock.
I've been quoted for about 11K from a jeweler an excellent (triple ex?), 1.40 ct, VS2, light blue flouresance, and I color.
The I color is throwing me off - my parents are my eyes at the moment, and they said it was beautiful. But I was expecting a cheaper stone a the I level. Any thoughts if this sounds about right? Or, am I not providing enough detail.
I was hoping to get around 1.5 ct, and up the color to around a G or an F - but that is looking to completely blow my price out of the water. So i'm going to stick to under 1.5.
