I was in Boston the weekend before last, and brought a stone back with me to DC. It was brilliant and beautiful, but the medium blue flour was quite noticeable in daylight. I fedexed the stone back this afternoon, and am receiving a new one in the coming days. By the numbers, it''s looking pretty good - 1ct H SI1 X/X/X RB, 61.6% depth, 56% table, 34.3 deg crown, 40.7 deg pavillion. I really hope this is the stone for me; my only concern is that it has a number of inclusions: there is a small crystal in the center of the table, and two clouds off to the side. I spoke with the man who was holding the stone, and he got it under a loupe and confirmed it''s eyeclean, so hopefully he''s right, and I''ve found a great diamond.

One other question - the cert is dated 2004. Do dealers hold on to stones until they feel the price is where they want it, or is there a reason this stone hasn''t been sold for five years?

Thanks!

Hi there!

Does this diamond have an AGS report? The numbers look good, hopefully it will be eyeclean when it arrives. As to the report, there are older ones out there and no sinister reason for such, sometimes diamonds just take a while to find a home, I would imagine this is an old type AGS report. Just make sure the clouds aren't affecting brilliance - you could get an independant appraiser to check this if you aren't sure.

Thanks Lorelei; the stone comes with a GIA cert, and now I don''t need to be nervous about the age anymore. I''m actually having it shipped to my appraiser in MD, and I''ll meet with her before the week is up to take a look at the stone.

That sounds like a plan! I would imagine the seller has run a Sarin report on the diamond to get the proportions as 2004 GIA report is pre cut grade. And you are most welcome, glad to help!
