The palace of the legion of Honor in San Francisco has an exhibit of decorative items that belonged to Louis the 14th ( and some of his lovers) and up to Marie Antoinette. The best part of the exhibit in my opinion were the diamond encrusted snuff boxes and the ewers that are carved out of materials like agate, bloodstone, amethyst, jade, crystal or marble, and decorated with very detailed metal work and jewels. Very generous with the rubies and rose cut diamonds. AND there were a few pink rose cut diamonds. They don''t say pink in the description but they were pink. And the color of the rubies is top color. Plus your bound to be impressed by tapestries.

Oh, oh, oh! Thank you IK! Since I'm right here, I would love to go see this, so thanks for the timely alert. Now I'm off to go look up the word "ewer!"

Well if they didn't call them ewers at the museum I would have called them small vases or pitchers. Because thats what they look like. Have fun! Curious to hear what your favorite piece is after you go :)
