Another 5 stone Ring question

So I may or may not be jumping on the 5 stone band wagon. But I wanted to get and all of your wonderful opinions. I know that I want to get a 5 stone made up of the FABULOUS AVC stones. I definately want the warmer ones. But my question is do you prefer the stones to be all the same size or do you like the graduated style better?

Also what would be your "perfect" size for the stones?

My finger size is 4.5 so I am really trying to figure what the biggest and best finger coverage would look right on my hand. I am thinking of this as an alternative wedding band or RHR. I don't think that I would mind if the stone wrapped a little around my finger but I really want you to see the 5 stones. Thinking of a platinum cross trellis as the setting.

The vintage 5 stone ring I just got has very slight graduation, so slight that you don't notice it until you really look. So if I have a new one made, I will do the same thing. Example: .27 in the middle, .25 on either side, and .23 on the ends (that is for rounds). It works well for the end stones to be a tiny bit smaller since those may curve to the side a little. And of course, you'd really go by diameter and not carats, so I just used weight because I don't know those stone sizes off the top of my head. I'd probably start with just a few points larger with AVC's. I really want one with AVR's, but I am questioning whether to do it because I really like the vintage one I just got! But I love AV stones, too! I wouldn't do a large center because then it would look more like an e-ring with smaller sidestones. I prefer them to look like a band, unless they ARE the e-ring. My ring size is 5.5 and 1 ctw goes across the top of my finger. I would go as large as 1.25 in rounds and maybe 1.5 in the AVC's.

Have you seen pack rats thread? She has some great line up photos of 5 stones.

In order to choose the sizes my advice would be to cut out different sized diamonds on sticky paper and stick them to your finger to get an idea of what you need for finger coverage. It's not perfect, but does give you a pretty good idea. I have some photos of the cutouts posted in my own thread if you wanted to see what I was talking about.

I saw that you had done that with the sticky shapes. I think I will go to office supply store, later so I can get a stencil to do that. I am thinking that if I maybe get the more elongated cushion I can get more Bling on my finger. and Yes I have been stalking both your's and parat's threads about your 5 stone project. I think I want it to be more along the proportions you are using, since I want it to be an alternate for my ering. There are a few M colored stones I am stalking. Just trying to decide if the .86 would be a could center size.

LMB- if you are going cushion it may be hard to find a stencil for that (then maybe not?) I had a stencil with a zillion different sized circles on it so it was easy for me. My friend who has a cushion, she prints out sheets of different sized cushion cuts and cuts them out, that works well too! I think 80 points is a great center stone size too!
