Angle shank

I notice that Simon G has rings where the shank is kind of square/angle on the outside to stop it spinning. Does anyone have a shank like that and does it really help with spinning? Here is the best pic I could find. He has cleverly put diamonds on the square bits. Would love to know if this works vs a horseshoe! Thanks.
