I just wanted to tell you that I''m really excited to try Shellac in a few days for my wedding. I never would have heard of it if it weren''t for you on PS raving about it.

I''m getting it done at a beauty school b/c that''s the only place close to where the wedding is being held that does it. Should I be worried about a student nail tech doing it? I realize everyone has to practice on someone but are mistakes easily fixed? I thought I read that when you do a french manicure, you can''t mess up the tips b/c you can''t start over. Should I stick to one color instead of french tips?

I wish I could have grown my nails a little longer before I get them done. They''d been really long for weeks and then I broke one last weekend and nipped them all off.

Any suggestions for pretty bridal colors if I don''t go with the french tips?

I know I am not Am, but I thought that nice pearly white might be nice for the wedding if you dont get the french.

OoooOoOooOoOoO!!!

I am sooooo excited for you!!!!! I bet you''ll love the Shellac! i know that the clients i switched to, they really love it!

When it comes to the french, at least for me, i hate re-touching the white. Many nail teks will put on the white then take a paintbrush dipped into acetone and re-crisp the lines where they boobooed. I have a technique that I developed over the years that I don''t have to do that and gives me pretty good results with my french white lines... It depends how skilled is the student, so my thought is that you might not get an amazing french, but it will be a good one since a teacher will be there to coach and help :)

I am going to post 2 pictures... One FRENCH Shellac Mani i did on my client, she had pretty short nails too. The nice thing with a french, it elongates or gives the impression of longer nails even if you have "stubbs" lol.

I used in order:

Base coat
Coat #1 "Romantique"
White line with "Cream puff"
Coat #2 "Negligee"
Top coat.

I cannot post pictures tonight - i tried every possible way... but it just wont let me

TravelG,

are you there??

I was able to post pictures and hope you get to see that before you go tomorrow and get your Shellac done!!!

This is a French Shellac I did on my client Celeste. I did a combination of colors to get there:

Base coat
1 coat of "Roantique"
the french smile line with Cream Puff ( there is no retouch on the white )
1 coat of "Negligee"
Top coat.

That is a very soft and pretty french manicure, expecially for a wedding :)

If you decide to NOT do a french, you could do something like this on the picture.
I did my own nails a couple of days ago and here is what I did with the Shellac:

base coat
1 coat of Strawberry Smoothie
1 coat of Negligee
top coat.

It's soft too, though more pink, but less risque if you fear that your tech might not be able to do
even french lines. It takes a lot of practice to be able to freehand without re-touching the white without the help of a paintbrush dipped in acetone. I really don't like that method as most techs end up with a bigger mess than what it was
before :)

Make sure your nailtech DOES NOT soak your hands in water ( giving you a water manicure ) cause your nails
will retain water anf the Shellac will shrink, and peel off in a matter of days. Also, if the product is applied too thick,
it will wrinkle and will not look nice.

please let me know if you have any other questions :)

HAVE A GREAT DAY AND FANTASTIC WEDDING!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry for the threadjack---

Ame, remember I talked about how I got the shellac?

While I LOVED it...it only last 1.5 weeks for me and my best friend!

Could there be any reason for that?

Oh no...I just saw the french....

I''m a complete sucker for french and the ones you posted turned out FANTASTIC.

gorgeous and very feminine!

Bebe?

Did you see I responded to your thread? :)

Travel Goddess, I''m so jealous. There is no place where I live that offers Shellac. One of my friends got it done and her nails looked amazing. Will you post pictures of your new manicure if you have time?

Amethyste if you could just move to Washington State and do my nails that would be GREAT! I can''t find anywhere that does the shellac manicures

I love the look of both manicures you posted because they look so natural. The thing I''ve always disliked about a regular french manicure is how bright the white is. You are such an arteest!

If you are going to a beauty school you might want to call ahead and let them know you are getting married the next day (or when ever) and you need a more advanced student that can do a near-professional job. I had my SIL (a student at a beauty school) do mine and everything peeled off within hours because she either didn''t clean off the lotion or soaked my nails too long or something. No one checked on her or checked my nails.

Oh my goodness! I started this thread and then got wrapped up in last minute wedding planning and completely forgot to come back! I'm sorry!

Well, lesson learned. Do not have a student do your nails. I was hoping the girl that did my nails was going to become a nail tech but she was a regular cosmetology student. Granted, she was a couple weeks from graduating so she was a "senior" student, but I probably could have done a better job of the actual painting myself. I was uneven (WAY too thick on the sides) and just not a great experience. I flinched multiple times while she was pushing back my cuticles. There was no way I was going to trust her to do a french manicure on me so I had her do "Romantique." The color was great as a bridal color. Her hands were shaking the whole time so I knew they weren't going to be very great.

As for the PRODUCT, I loved it! It stayed on for 13 days through the wedding and honeymoon in Bora Bora. My hands were in the salt water all the time and I was in a sauna and steam room. They did start chipping a little towards the last few days but since I had such a light pink color on, it wasn't really noticeable. I look at honeymoon pictures and from a distance my nails look fine, but up close, it looked super amateur. On the wedding day, the photog said: "okay, do you want a picture of your rings?" I said "yeah, but try not to take a picture of my nails." So, while the job the girl did was poor, the Shellac itself was amazing. I was able to just peel it off myself with no damage to my natural nail.

I'm having another go at in on Friday. I called a salon in my area and asked specifically if they had a nail tech on staff. So no more students for me! I'm hoping she does a good job.

Now, I just need to decide on a color. I'd like to see what Fedora looks like in real life b/c the website makes it look really brown. Anybody have pictures of that one on?
