That's a nice amethyst. Where did you get a Siberian amethyst from? I don't see many vendors selliing them (or maybe I'm not looking in the right places).

This is a vendor on Instagram,I see some very nice stones on his profile pictures, some quite large indeed
Tell me if you have any luck

To give you an idea of price, that huge stone sold for $950,very respectable price.

It’s virtually impossible to give an definite origin of “Siberia” to amethyst so mostly the designation is given based on colour. That deep vivid purple with flashes of red / blueish highlights. It’s the top colour in amethyst.
One thing to be cautious about is that these days they create lab (hydrothermal) amethyst in the most desired hue. The material is identical to natural but way way cheaper.
Another material that looks very similar is lab grown corundum. Those huge size popular cocktail rings from the 70s (ish) that they called “Alexandrite” are a similar vivid deep purple with red flashes. The benefit of lab corundum over lab quartz is the hardness. Lab corundum is 9 and much better wearing. Amethyst and lab quartz are only around 7.

Yes,"Siberian quality" is the trade term,on looking at my amythyst there's some zoning, not too much but enough to add character let me know it's real, the color makes me feel like it should be in a velvet box underneath my bed,has an air of something exotic.

By zoning I meant irregular light dispersion, prisms.Thats what made me think it was exotic =)

Thanks, I’ve had people notice it from across the room. It’s a very intense purple that shifts to violet.

I'm so glad amethyst is relatively abundant and affordable - it makes it possible for amethyst lovers to wear them in big sizes!

Goes really well with gold too!

I think this seller actually used to be a PS poster.

I first saw him on Ebay with his PS name. He was selling the CC garnet in this ring.

Then I saw the same thing on IG

At some point he changed his IG username and started selling these large faceted stones.
Looks like PS had quite the impact :cool2:

Why can't I use my brain for more important things?

I love amethysts. Here's one of mine. Still trying to think of what to do with it besides admire it in the box. Probably will do a pendant. It's from Dan Stair and is 15.97 ct, 17.47 mm. I have some others that are lighter and more sparkly. Amy01.jpg Amy02.jpg Amy04.jpg

Like others said, amethysts do come in a variety of colors. That one is pretty -- it reminds me of lilac flowers.

That said, amethyst does fade. Different stones fade at different rates (I think this varies by origin), so for some the fading isn't drastic, but for others it is.
