Hello,

Has anyone ever bought a diamond from Amazon.com? Do you know there they get their diamonds from? I have been searching for a loose diamond and their prices seem competetive and comprable to other prices I''ve researched.

Thanks for any inforomation you may have to give!

Nope. I haven't. How much information do they provide and what type of certs do they carry?

I just checked them out. So far, I see only GIA certs with stock pictures. No pictures of the real diamond. I guess they are sort of like Blue Nile with the diamonds in a virtual database. It looks like they don't have the actual stone in their inventory. This means that you will not get real magnified pictures, much less Idealscope and ASET pictures. I would not chose to go this route unless I am buying rounds only (because I use the HCA as a weeding tool). Even so, not my top choice since I can't even check the stone out for inclusions from their website.

My first thought is why buy it on amazon when you can buy from someone like Whiteflash who specializes in diamonds alone? But no, I haven't done it myself and doing a quick search it looks like most people found cheaper prices from PS vendors with a quick look.

Not to mention there is probably no upgrade policy and no "customer service" person to talk to if you have problems...

As long as you know what you are doing and you don't care that there isn't an upgrade policy I think it would be fine. They have GIA certs and on many of them you can look at the crown and pavillion numbers to see whether the stones are nice. They also have a return policy so that you could check them out yourself or get them appraised. I would do it for purchases like diamonds for earrings or for a pendant...if I didn't think I'd want to upgrade them, but probably not for an e-ring diamond. They do seem to have pretty cheap prices.

I wouldn't do it if you didn't know what to look for in the numbers though...
