So I have this wierd obsession with dressing up my dog. I''ve never had a dog who would tolerate it until Piju. We got him a Halloween costume over the weekend. He''s going to be Kung Fu Doggie.

ooh i love it!! i have yet to buy a costume for my doggy....

We got this one at Old Navy. They have a great selection, better than Petco!

I''m not really obsessed with dressing up my dog but I could easily see one developing...

So cute!! What an amazingly gorgeous Chow chow!! I just love how they look like big grouchy teddy bears! Only teddy bears are never quite as soft and cuddly as Chows!

Does he like clothes? Does he just stand there and let you stick his paws through?

I''m wondering if this is a chow-chow thing? Monster dog loves his collars and pouts if I take them off. I once put a t-shirt on Monster dog so he couldn''t lick a hot spot and he loved it! He really enjoyed wearing his t-shirt and clearly felt it belonged to him just like his collars. Which is more than a bit odd, imo.

Now he''s wearing boxer shorts for medical reasons. (or house cleanliness reasons, poor thing) He''s not happy about walking in them at all. Yet he''ll stand there and let me pick up his back paws and put them in the legs and pull his tail through the *cough* third opening. He doesn''t try to pull them off or anything even though he won''t walk more than two steps without a lot of sweet talking.

Anyway, do you think Piju likes his clothes or is he just very tolerant of whatever his beloved mommy''s asks? Chows are very very devoted to their person after all.

Well, he's not a dog, but, DD and I dress up the cat all of the time. It is hysterical!!! DD dresses him like a baby, complete with bonnet, and pushes him around in her doll stroller. The cat doesn't even mind!

ETA: Just to show how huge this cat is, those are size 3 girls' shorts.

hehee that is too cute! Your cat is adorable and a big furball. What fun!

Well, the story of Piju is very interesting, because he''s not your typical chow. Fi bought P from a petstore 13 years ago because his gram fell in love with him. So against the wishes of the pet store (who said he was a bad breed and didn''t want to sell him) they bought him as a $99 special. P and gram were best friends from that moment on. He''d wait for her every day at the head of the stairs when she went in to the hospital for dialysis and she had a picture of him in the hospital when she passed. So after that, he was strictly TJs. He''s not a mean dog, but he loves his dad and protects his house like the good guard dog that he is. He''s very social unless you''re a solicitor or highway toll-taker (thank god for easy pass!). So P and TJs ex didn''t get along all that well. He tolerated her, but he could take her or leave her. He wasn''t very obedient and didn''t really like being around her. Along comes me! P and I took an instant liking to each other. The first time I came into the house he didn''t growl at me and he licked my hand (which is unheard of, he doesn''t kiss). He follows me around and listens to me when I say no. We''re bestest buds, but he''s still very much TJs.

Is Monster dog a chow too? This is the first time I''ve been exposed to them and I''m hooked! I can''t wait to have another. P doesn''t play well with other dogs though so we have to hold off on getting a puppy for a few years (hopefully a few)

According to TJ, he''s always liked wearing clothes. He had a yellow fleece that he''d wear all the time in the winter. We just bought him a down vest and then his halloween costume. He just stands there and lets you put it on him. It doesn''t bother him at all. I''m going to try the boxer thing right now. He has a hot/bald spot next to his tail that he keeps biting. He had allergy problems when the seasons change. We give him benadryl and try to keep up with brushing, but it always happens. Boxers are a great idea though! YAY more clothes to buy for him. I might have to get some with cats on them :)

Oh, I also got some polo shirts for the cats but I just put advantix on them so I have to wait a bit to put them on. I''ll definitely post pics, it''ll be too funny!

OMG, I love his little tail!

So I tried the boxers on Piju and he''s tolerating them. Nice! I need to get some with a smaller waistband though, the mediums he has on are a little too big. Pics tomorrow (my phone is out in the car!)

OMG, I cannot believe that cat!!! WOW. How old is he??

I''ll admit that I''ve said that I''m against dressing animals up (okay, there IS an element of the ridiculousness to it...), but I''m totally guilty of spending almost $200 in cat collars so our boys can coordinate...so really, I''d probably be uber tempted if we had a canine.

And... gotta admit, when my parents put their maltese in her faux fur-lined parka for snowy days, it''s the cutest thing ever. I think she might also have matching boots. Unfortunately, no pics (at least not until it snows!)

The only way I can get my cats to sit still for "family" pictures is if I put them in sweaters or such. They just freeze in place like little statues.

No you are NOT the only one who enjoys dressing up doggies, lol! We have two beagles, and the eldest absolutely detests wearing anything besides his collar, but the youngest (my little girl Daisy) just loves wearing doggie tees or costumes or whatever. She doesn''t bother them while she''s wearing them, but if she can get hold of one of her outfits that has been forgotten lying on a table or something within her reach she''ll rip it to shreds. She''s fun to dress up and takes it well, I don''t put her in anything toooo crazy or silly, usually just basic tees or tanks in pinks with rhinestones and she looks a-DOR-able and KNOWS it. LOL!

Growing up I only had cats. They were to me a living breathing babydoll. They got dressed up and strolled around every day!! You have not lived if you haven''t dressed up a spirited feline. They will dance and flip and run like you have never seen before. I had one that hopped /leaped when she had a dress on. It was halairous. Cruel? No. Those cats got more attention than alot of children do. And my did they look pretty in a bonnet.

Dogs are cute dressed but BORING...they just don''t have the independant nature that cats do...and that is what makes them soooo mad! You can put snow booties on your dog and get some really funny paw two step action.

LOL, DKS, if you want to see an "independent" "cat-personality" dog, try my MILo...he''s about as "cat personality" as dogs come, imo! He''s finnicky, moody, independent (except when it comes to his daddy, my DH), etc. It''s hilarious how many moods he has, we sometimes refer to him as "the schizophrenic dog," because he has so many personalities. I think basically (and this is just my personal theory) he is smart enough to know how to get attention from either of us: he knows mom will do whatever he wants, but discipline him if needed, and he knows dad will give him whatever he wants times ten and still give him positive attention. He has US well-trained, LOL!

I love kitties, we just don''t have a good place for a litterbox (even an enclosed one) out of reach of the doggies (they like to eat s*it, hee hee) in this house, so we''re waiting to move into a larger house that''s more accomodating for both canines and felines before we expand our pet family...but we know in due time we''ll have a kitty who will rule the roost for sure! Can''t wait, love cats!! May or may not dress them up, though...we''ll see how the personality is!

Bailey will wear this for the games

Oh! They''re so cute in their game day outfits! I should get a team t-shirt for Monster dog too! (I swear everything else in this town turns into team colors on game day anyway!)

I think your story of how you first met p is adorable. I always say that''s how I knew dh was ''the one'' for me. Monster loved him from the very start! Yeah, Monster dog is part chow so he''s like half again as large as pure chows but otherwise looks very ''chow-ish''. He likes other dogs, but he''s not what I''d call social. (or athletic)

I''m surprised that P wears fleece and down. They''re pretty well insulated as-is.

I am looking for a large doggy sized rain slicker and hat. Most doggy clothes are for little dogs, lucky dogs!

Hudson! Have you checked out cuteoverload.com? They have a tonne of ''dogs in costumes'' pics! Meg (blog author) loves ''em.

I think they are quite hilarious myself.

Your pooch is a cutie!

Okay, I just have to chime in here. This is Gigi in her haloween costume last year

The pom-poms on her feet just cracked me up, lol.

Bailey is SO CUTE!!!! I am dying for a dog, but FI doesn''t want one. And we probably travel too much anyway. But that fluffy face. GAH!

We do, for Halloween. We haven't decided what Sally will be this year, but last Halloween, she was a very unhappy chicken.

(Sorry for the picture quality!)

He was just over a year old in that pic. Now he''s a week shy of 15 mos. old. He is my sweet baby! What''s ridiculous about a boy cat in a bonnet, infant shirt, girls'' shorts, and mardi gras beads?????
