Same stone, different sellers?

Well good gravy, I was getting ready to submit this and scrolled down and here''s another one!

Could they all be the same seller, like how Tan is gemburionline/odysseygem/vvs1gem?

Oh I never thought about that! Does Tan list the same stone thru each of his stores too?

heh, I just mentioned this in a different thread. I see this all the time on ebay and I'd have to assume they are all scams. I bet you could find a 100 sets of duplicate items if you looked around for an hour or two. Wouldn't be surprised if they all had differing weights and even materials.

What surprises me is the high feedback rating people who post bogus ratings still have. On the other hand it is kindof a fun matching game. Gets fun when they reverse the image or use the photo to sell say a chrome tourmaline and a peridot and a tsavorite.

So even if these are 3 different storefronts representing the same person, what happens when somebody buys one of the listings? I'm pretty sure ebay doesn't just cancel the other two automatically. So if two people buy it they both will be sending money to Thailand and hoping the vendor returns the cash.

Huh..

Weird. Seems like a waste of money to list the same stone in 3 places at once.

Maybe not, since some people may watch one store but not another and be unaware that they are all the same vendor (I hate this, by the way). As long as the vendor takes down the other listings as soon as it sells on one store, I would be ok with it (like the same diamond may be listed by several different vendors).

Hi,

This stone is a "buy it now" price. Once the stone is sold, the owner removes all 3 listings. After that he bills the buyer.
I made a lower offer on a "buy it now." The lister accepted it but had to change the buy it now price to the lower amount before I could close the transaction. All this is allowed on ebay. I would think of it like real estate. Its a multiple listing, but nothing inherently dishonest. Its an easy process to remove all the listings.

Thanks,

Well as ebay doesn't automatically close the other two listings and the seller has to manually do it, I believe it would be a violation of ebay policy. There is a rule that specifically states you may not:

* List an item that may be out of stock at the time of purchase. - Obviously these aren't all in stock at once.
* List an item that you're simultaneously selling outside of eBay. - Seems like a violation of at least the spirit of the law here as the intent of this rule is also to have the item be available when it might not be.

For at least a little while there will be the two bogus listings that somebody could purchase and send funds to thailand before the seller notices. I think when most people buy on ebay for a buy it now, they don't wait for the seller to send a bill, they just automatically complete the transaction with PayPal. I would unless the terms and conditions stated you shouldn't.

I believe ebay has or at least used to have a rule that while you can have multiple ebay accounts they had to be strictly kept separate from each other. So if you wanted an account for buying and another for selling this is fine. OR if you wanted an account for selling jewelry and another for selling clocks this is fine. Multiple accounts for the same item was a no no, Primarily to prevent you from bidding on your own items but I thought the rule would preclude this as well.
